OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
To play a critical role in developing, monitoring and evaluating overall corporate strategy with the Managing Director Americas and Senior Management team. An executive appointment which is directly accountable for the entities within the Americas region. The CFO will have input on funding options to support growth and preparing the business for an IPO or sale in the future. The role will also have emphasis on system profit, bottom line performance and enhancing shareholder value while managing the financial impact of new products and new markets. Lead the financial planning and strategy for all elements of the Insurance and Intermediary business models. Interact effectively as a trusted business advisor with the executive team, providing expert guidance, key financial information and operational analytics. Drive a culture of accountability in managing each of the operating businesses, balancing top and bottom line performance, with attractive underwriting results. Hold responsibility for a decision making appropriate for the size of the business and free up the CEO from day to day oversight.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic financial management:
Review, develop and implement effective financial planning and budgeting models tailored to the needs of the business; continually evaluate to ensure that the chosen models remain fit for purpose and reflective of current best practice standards.
Direct and implement the financial strategy by: o Implementing a working knowledge of balance sheet management, investment oversight and capital structures. o Working in close partnership with regional Managing Directors and other executive team members to develop financial planning and forecasting for their functions; o Providing useful financial insights to support better decisions in the formulation and execution of business strategy for both established and new operating entities; o Establishing the internal control processes required to manage and grow the business; o Anticipating problems and proactively implement appropriate solutions; o Driving the annual budget process and monthly reporting, o Leading the financial aspects of potential expansion or joint venture activity, and o Actively managing the groups liquidity, capital, and balance sheet management.
Operational finance :
Proactively manage cash flows in a leveraged environment.
Manage financial capital, including communication of capital requirements and implications of business decisions to the CEO, COO and investors.
Conduct meaningful proactive analysis to improve key business decisions, with a particular focus upon the management of working capital.
Grow the equity value of the business.
Ensure efficient capital expenditure.
Manage and minimize tax exposure dealing with transfer pricing, multiple jurisdictions and cross border transactions.
Develop, implement and monitor the groups financial risk management and underwriting performance by:
o Providing strong leadership of the underwriting, actuarial and finance functions.
o Driving a high degree of discipline regarding the groups underwriting performance through application of appropriate product and pricing controls.
o Leading internal audit and quality control procedures.
o Managing the statutory audit process.
o Ensuring all necessary controls are in place to manage the companys financial position in each of its operating territories, in accordance with local regulatory requirements for format and timescales, and
o In conjunction with the IT development team, expanding financial reporting systems to determine daily and weekly gross profit estimates and ensure integration of financial system requirements.
Use commercial acumen to drive effective communication with key internal and external parties, including day-to-day interaction with senior-level bankers and creditors.
Effectively manage investor, bank, board of director and financial advisor relationships.
Manage the fiduciary responsibility of the CFO.
People Management:
Effectively lead the Finance team by hiring and retaining top-grade talent.
Develop and coach the existing team for exceptional performance.
Proactively replace underperformers as needed.
Compliance:
Take responsibility for establishing and maintaining up-to-date personal and team awareness of all legislative, regulatory and Company-specific rules, policies and procedures related to performance of the role. Ensure consistent compliance with legal, regulatory and Company standards in each jurisdiction where the company trades.
Pay particular attention to the Companys Information and Data Security policies when accessing and using all Company systems which may provide access to sensitive information assets, and strive to maintain the highest possible standards of information protection at all times.
Take individual responsibility for accessing only the systems, records and information required to perform the role. Treat all data contained within those systems in a manner consistent with the Companys Information and Data Security policies, and in line with the confidentiality clauses provided within the employment contract.
EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
In-depth knowledge of the medical insurance industry from a financial and accounting standpoint is essential; as such a background within the International Private Medical Insurance sector is preferred.
Extensive experience at managing an Insurance company with a detailed practical working knowledge of financial, actuarial and underwriting functions.
Demonstrable leadership experience and a professional track record of exceptional performance in key executive financial positions. Must have held the CFO title (or equivalent) previously.
At least one prior role to have been held within a Private Equity start-up environment is preferred.
Knowledge and experience in a senior leadership role in merger and acquisitions.
Detailed knowledge of the MGA and Insurer model as well as capital efficient structures.
Qualified to degree level in Accounting, Finance or Business, and holding current membership of a recognized professional accounting body such as AAT, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent).
An established high-level contact network including key players across the Insurance, Financial Services and Banking sectors, plus the ability to leverage existing contacts in support of business results.
High level of verbal and numeric reasoning skills.
Application of accounting skill & judgment at a senior management level.
A global outlook - able to incorporate multiple regulatory requirements and cultural viewpoints into practical financial solutions.
