Job Duties

The Program Support Technician independently performs administrative functions to include data entry of water fluoridation data for reporting to the Center for Disease Control, processing of incoming drinking water projects to be reviewed by VDH engineers and outgoing construction permits, and activities to support data management related projects.

This role independently performs technical office tasks in support of one or more programs, continuously applying policy and procedures. Characteristic activities: serves as an expert contact and information resource for one or more programs; performs the most complex tasks for program services available in a health department or district; provides information to promote access to other services; serves as lead worker to direct, advise and train others; designs and directs workflow processes; researches and processes claims; gathers data and collects and prepares reports on program activities; develops, promotes and coordinates program activities, and may provide financial/procurement support as requested.

This position is in the Virginia Department of Health Building (located: 109 Government Street, Richmond VA) and works in support of the Office of Drinking Water.

Wage employees are subject to the following conditions of employment:•Wage employees serve at the will and pleasure of the appointing authority.•Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.•Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act. Therefore, they arenot eligible for benefits which are provided to salaried employees, such as leave credits, holiday pay,insurance, access to the grievance procedure, etc.•Wage employees are paid only for the hours they actually work.•Virginia state law currently requires that agencies not permit wage employees to work in excess of29 hours per week on average over the course of a year. Wage employees may not work for VDHbeyond 1,500 hours during the period of May 1 - April 30 of the following year (the StandardMeasurement Period).•Once a wage employee works the maximum of 1,500 hours during the Standard MeasurementPeriod, the employee may be rehired as a wage employee of VDH only after the next StandardMeasurement Period has begun.•Wage employees are eligible to apply for all classified positions for which recruitment has beeninitiated, including those limited to State Employees Only.•If a wage employee becomes employed in a classified position, he/she will be eligible to purchaseretirement credit for the time worked as a wage employee.•Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.

Minimum Qualifications

- Working knowledge of computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service.- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written- Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier and fax);- Experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
