The Director of Finance serves as the financial officer overseeing accounting, budget processes and fiscal reporting, and leads and manages district payroll processes. Provides leadership, management and oversight of transportation, nutrition services, building operations and maintenance. This is a full-time, 12-month position, and reports to the Superintendent. The annual salary range for this position is $160,000-$174,000, based on experience, and includes excellent benefits.

Job SummaryServe as the Financial Officer overseeing accounting, budget processes and fiscal reporting. Leads and manages district payroll processes. Provides leadership, management and oversight of transportation, nutrition services, building operations and maintenance.

Job Functions

Serve as Financial Officer for the district.Responsible for the administration, development, implementation and monitoring of the district budget as required by statute, and in accordance with district goals and policies.Prepare reports as required by state and federal agencies relating to the fiscal operations of the district.Provide fiscal reports on a timely basis as required to ensure that the Board of Education and administration are well informed.Develop and implement appropriate internal accounting and auditing procedures.Align budget with district staffing requirements.Develop financial forecasts in all areas of general business affairs.Manage Skyward Finance system including district wide set up for finance, true time and payroll.Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of all aspects of payroll processing.Work with building administrators in developing and monitoring building budgets.Responsible for administration and management of the district's transportation program, including negotiating provider contracts.Oversee and manage student census data and reporting for state funding and district class size management.Lead and supervise finance and payroll staff.Provide financial and management oversight to the Nutrition Services Department.Provide financial oversight of building operations and maintenance.Advise Superintendent and School Board regarding management financial resources.Develop and supervise a system of internal cash and accounting controls for safekeeping of funds.Manage annual audit of school district accounts.Work with Human Resources to manage, monitor and forecast costs associated with employee benefit plans including medical, dental, life, long term disability, flexible benefits and 403b.Manage liability and workers' compensation insurance contracts.Serve on district negotiations team for employee collective bargaining agreements.Review, develop, and recommend policies and procedures as required.Serve on Superintendent's leadership team.Maintain a relationship with regional and statewide contemporaries to keep abreast of new and innovative ideas that pertain to this function.Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with all students, staff, families and community members.Adhere to staff and program guidelines and district procedures and policies.Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities RequiredTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely-related fieldFive to seven years of experience working in public sector accounting; preferably within public schoolsIn-depth knowledge of laws, rules, statutes and guidelines related to school finance, accounting and payrollIn-depth knowledge of organizational, management and supervisory principles, standards and practicesExperience managing transportation, nutrition services, building operations and maintenanceExperience and knowledge managing and administering payrollExtensive knowledge and experience using Skyward Finance systemKnowledge of principles and practices of administration, supervision, and trainingAbility to successfully manage, project, formulate and establish budgetsOutstanding planning and organizational skillsExcellent oral and written communication and human relations skillsStrong technology skillsProven ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others.Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and proceduresAbility to provide leadership and vision in the financial management and planning of district resources
