Your Opportunity
Morrison Hershfield, now Stantec's Building Science Group provides planning, design, and construction administration services for a vast array of building types and uses. We are currently seeking a Building Science Consultant to complement our Building Sciences team in the Portland Office to play a role in the delivery of field reviews for both new construction and rehabilitation, building condition assessment/evaluations, air barrier consulting, project management, and renewal planning. Due to expanding business opportunities within the company, this position offers significant potential for growth in the areas of technical/professional development and project management.
Your Key Responsibilities
Undertake field review of both new construction and rehabilitation projects to confirm that the construction of the building envelope assemblies is proceeding per approved mock-ups and design documents
Prepare site visit reports to generate Action Lists of outstanding deficiencies and track their resolution
Assist with design and CAD drafting of building envelope details and assemblies
Undertake a preliminary review of a previously submitted drawing set to confirm the extent to which our previous comments have been incorporated
Attend client meetings with Senior Tech staff and write meeting memos documenting discussions around the building envelope
Undertake field testing of selected elements of building envelope assemblies to confirm compliance with specified performance standards (primarily water infiltration and air leakage) and prepare reports outlining the results of these tests
Interface with architects, general contractors, and sub-trades
Review submittals from sub-trades
Assist in field work associated with the assessment of existing buildings and the preparation of building envelope assessment reports
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD is desirable
Ability to handle multiple projects with the ability to effectively prioritize
Strong written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
Strong relationship/interpersonal skills required
Construction review experience a plus
Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
Education and Experience
Degree in Architecture or Structural/Mechanical Engineering or Construction related fields
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
