Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist III (System Administrator)

Basic Function

Provides systems guidance for telecommunications and network facilities and/or services including implementation of network communications hardware and software for large scale projects. Works closely with systems users to provide direction/assistance in identification and resolution of user problems. Performs duties in safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Serves as a senior technical advisor to the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) project group.Manages and maintains ITS telecommunications, security, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring systems.Performs configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting, design, cost estimating, and specification writing related to the deployment and integration of ITS equipment such as CCTV, cameras, video management systems, access control, records management systems, computer aided dispatch and emergency & incident management systems.Serves as point of contact and liaison with Metro Police Department (MPD) for public safety related technologies and applications.Maintains awareness of applications used by METRO departments through security and CCTV programs and advises management of the possible security implications.Interacts directly with law enforcement agencies and maintains appropriate documentation during investigations.Aids in providing customer support for installed system via phone support, remote troubleshooting and site visits as needed.Works with other ITS Project Managers in researching and setting technical direction.Drafts and communicates project scopes/requirements to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High School Diploma or GED is required. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related degree preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience in operation and management of Information Technology applications In one or more of the following technologies: Active Directory, Windows Operating Systems, Network Cabling installation and maintenance, Server Administration, Routing and Switching fundamentals. Experience with development, deployment & monitoring of physical security surveillance projects, as well as ITS related projects and applications preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Intermediate knowledge in telecommunications, security and/or CCTV systems. Related knowledge in emergency equipment repair and troubleshooting skills for these systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Excellent customer service skills. One of the following certifications is desired: Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, ISC2, ONSSI, Genetec, Fiber, Data Center, or Wireless Certifications. Knowledge related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, video systems, IT networks, or backhaul communications such as wireless, cellular and fiber optics is strongly desired. Knowledge of wired communication designs including fiber optic cable and copper distribution.
