Electronic Systems Specialist

Serves as oversight between METRO personnel, contracted vendors and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) service individuals ensuring standards in safety, quality and workmanship. Developing and implementing new methods and procedures to improve operations/production and minimize operating costs related to vehicle electronic systems. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.Responsibilities and Specific Duties
Evaluates/diagnoses reported problems and determines appropriate repair actions.Uses specialized diagnostic equipment appropriate for troubleshooting electronic components.Utilizes specialized test equipment and diagnostics to locate faults and trouble codes in various vehicle electronic systems.Verifies reported defects using logical troubleshooting methods.Demonstrates continuous effort to improve vehicle reliability, decrease vehicle down time and streamline work processes.Reports findings of poor workmanship.Serves as technical advisor to the superintendent / foreman on bus electronic systems.Collaborates with Maintenance Support personnel in the review of quality and product warranty related issues.Attends OEM and METRO training programs to enhance skill levels related to above systems.Trains new technicians/mechanics as assigned.Responsible for diagnosing, trouble-shooting, and overall functionality of electronic systems and equipment.Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Education Requirement
High School Diploma or GED is required. Associate degree in electronic technology or related field is preferred.Years & Experience Required
Minimum five (5) years extensive electronic systems maintenance/management. Experience with Hybrid Electric Vehicle/ Hybrid diesel bus technology is preferred.Knowledge & Skills Required
A valid Texas Driver’s License is required for the job and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Ability to conduct and understand computer diagnostic evaluations, skilled in problem solving and trouble shooting. Knowledge of hybrid manufacturers is preferred. Working knowledge of personal computers and related software; Microsoft Office and system diagnostics. Ability to maintain computer records and complete required paperwork as required in SAP. Good interpersonal skills, communication (written/verbal) skills, decision making and organizational skills. Familiar with labor relations/union agreements and related procedures. Certification and/or training from a recognized hybrid program preferred.Additional Information
