Under the direct oversight of the Vice President, Fleet Services, the Director, Fleet Services will provide strategic leadership, planning, directing, managing, and oversight of the operations, services, and functions of the Fleet Maintenance division in Bus Operations. The Director will be responsible for the provision of safe, clean, reliable, accessible, and friendly transportation services, performing duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.Responsibilities and Specific Duties
Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g., training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.Oversees the day-to-day operations of all Bus Operating Facility (BOF) fleet maintenance locations.Coordinates with the BOF Superintendent and/or General Foreman on all activities related to daily functions of fleet maintenance.Performs a daily review of performance metrics for Fleet Services to ensure all repairs, inspections, campaigns, and recalls are being performed efficiently.Performs a daily review of all service interruptions (road calls) to identify failure trends and coordinates with the management staff at each location to ensure repairs are being completed per recommended OEM guidelines.Performs an in-depth review and analysis of problematic/repeat maintenance failures to assist in the identification of safe and efficient corrective measures to ensure fleet reliability.Works in conjunction with the Director, Maintenance Support and the Director, Technical Services on all issues requiring external maintenance support and/or technical assistance.Works in conjunction with the Director, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on all issues related to on-bus communications, including IVOMS, Motorola radio, advanced camera and video monitoring, and revenue fare collection.Monitors compliance with department goals and objectives; conducts regular operational reviews that focus on department performance, safety, and customer service.Monitors existing and future technologies that provide improvements to on-time performance, safety, training, and cost controls.Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration or a related degree is preferred.Years & Experience Required
Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in bus or heavy-duty vehicle operations and maintenance, including experience in labor relations and contract negotiations. Management in the public sector or transit service organization is preferred.Knowledge & Skills Required
Strong knowledge of practices and principles of diagnoses, maintenance, and repair of diesel bus vehicles and preventive maintenance. Must have strong interpersonal and (written/verbal) communications skills to speak before the METRO Board and other large groups of people. Good decision-making and organizational skills. General knowledge of PCs and related software.Additional Information
