At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.The Senior Manager of Purchasing is responsible for leading the Material Buyer team, manages supplier interactions, and ensures effective material procurement. This role is critical to the success of the sites supply chain and as such the incumbent will play a pivotal role within the site management leadership team. Providing regular material delivery status via KPI is a key requisite. Your strategic decision-making, procurement expertise, and supplier relationship management will play a pivotal role in optimizing procurement strategies, ensuring timely and quality supply, and strengthening supplier partnerships.What will you be doing?You will provide leadership and guidance to the Material Buyer team, ensuring smooth procurement operations. Your role includes fostering and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, expanding sourcing options, and enhancing the supplier network. Additionally, you will review and approve purchase orders to ensure accuracy and alignment with production requirements.Procurement Strategy and PerformanceDeveloping and executing cost-effective procurement strategies to optimize sourcing processes is a key responsibility. You will also monitor and evaluate supplier performance based on established scorecards, overseeing key metrics and indicators. A meticulous management of item master data within our ERP system, employing ABC/XYZ analysis, will be crucial to ensure accurate signals efficiently drive material requirements.The ability to communicate daily status via logical KPIs and can build data to our site leadership and through our tier structure is essential.Supplier Performance EvaluationYou will oversee the periodic update of supplier scorecards to assess performance against quality, delivery, and cost metrics. In cases where suppliers do not meet performance standards, you will implement corrective actions, including penalties.Supplier Communication and Risk MitigationReviewing and addressing supplier responses and proposed commitments to ensure alignment with our needs will be part of your responsibilities. Providing timely updates on supplier delivery performance and highlighting material risks requiring attention will contribute to effective risk mitigation.Contract and Quotation AnalysisCollaboration with cross-functional teams to analyze quotations and contracts for adherence to standards and regulations will be essential. Ensuring proposed contracts align with business requirements and industry best practices will be part of your role.What will you need to be successful?Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.Over 5 years of experience in supply chain management and material planning within a global company, you bring a wealth of knowledge.Strong expertise in supplier interaction, negotiation, and procurement strategy development is invaluable.An in-depth understanding of shipping, receiving materials, and procurement processes is crucial.You.
