Position Title : Director of DevelopmentReporting To : Executive Vice President/Co-FounderPosition Overview : Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will lead all fundraising efforts to support New Earth’s mission. This role involves establishing and overseeing the growth and management of a diverse portfolio of philanthropic, government, and corporate funding partners, with a goal of building sustainable financial support for New Earth. As a crucial member of the leadership team, the Director of Development will help build the development department, lead strategic initiatives, and play a key role in establishing new campaigns, and funding partnerships.Duties & Responsibilities :Fund Development Strategy :
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support New Earth's mission, focusing on individual giving, foundation and corporate support, and public funding opportunities.Establish and implement fundraising goals, metrics, and timelines to achieve growth, with accountability for 25% of the organization's budget coming from individual giving, foundation and corporate support.Build a diversified funding pipeline and expand major gift efforts, including cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, corporations, and foundations.Lead the strategic planning and execution of major donor campaigns, including individual giving initiatives, capital campaigns, and special projects.
Grant Writing and Oversight :
Oversee the identification of funding opportunities and review grant proposals developed by external grant writing firm to ensure proposals align with New Earth’s goals and compliance requirements.Work internally with New Earth's executive team, program staff, and finance department to provide external grant writing firm with the necessary information to complete grant applications accurately and effectively.Coordinate compliance reporting for all grant awards with external grant writing firm, including tracking deadlines, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring all reporting requirements are met.Work closely with the leadership team to design funding strategies for underfunded programs.
Major Campaign Leadership :
Lead the planning and oversight of major campaigns, including capital campaigns and annual fundraising events such as galas.Work closely with capital campaign and event management firms and internal teams to ensure successful implementation of fundraising events.
Donor Engagement and Cultivation :
Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential major donors, re-engaging past donors and establishing new connections.Lead donor stewardship efforts, ensuring donors are informed, appreciated, and aware of their impact.Serve as the primary point of contact for individual giving, major gifts, and capital campaigns.
Board Development and Engagement :
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to support their fundraising efforts and engage them as active participants in development activities.Lead efforts to strengthen board involvement, including ensuring board members meet their fundraising responsibilities, and support efforts to recruit new members.
Team Leadership and Development :
Establish and develop a new development department, managing a Development Coordinator and overseeing contractors.Provide strategic leadership and vision for the growth of the development team, ensuring systems and procedures are established to support department expansion.Manage department staff, providing mentorship, support, and setting goals to ensure collective success.
Database and Tools Management :
Maximize the use of Blackbaud and other donor management tools to optimize fundraising processes.Oversee the integration and effective use of technology, including donor management software, to enhance operational efficiency.Utilize social media marketing to elevate and promote New Earth’s message across multiple platforms and to various audiences
Community Engagement :
Represent New Earth at networking events, donor gatherings, and community functions.Spend approximately 30-40% of time engaging in community events to foster relationships and maintain visibility.
Qualifications :Experience : A minimum of 10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a proven track record in developing and managing major donor relationships, campaigns, and events. Experience with capital campaigns is preferred.Education : Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. CFRE, CAP, CNP, or PCNM certification is highly desirable.Technical Skills : Proficiency with Blackbaud or similar CRM systems. Experience leveraging project management tools (e.g., Asana) and AI platforms to support donor engagement is preferred.Soft Skills : Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively. The ability to work independently and navigate a fast-paced, dynamic environment is essential.Leadership : Proven leadership skills, with experience in developing and leading a fundraising team.
