THE POSITION:

The Gas System Supervisor position for the City of Brazoria is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing the city's natural gas distribution system. Reporting directly to the Public Works Director, the supervisor oversees the operation and maintenance of 60 miles of distribution lines and 2 miles of steel piping. This role ensures that the system complies with regulations set by the Texas Railroad Commission, protecting public health and maintaining the integrity of the infrastructure.

A key focus of the Gas System Supervisor is ensuring safety and compliance within the gas system. By adhering to Texas Railroad Commission guidelines, the supervisor will help prevent incidents, protect the environment, and uphold the city's commitment to providing reliable service. Regulatory oversight includes routine inspections, maintenance of critical infrastructure such as regulators and valves, and the management of leak detection and corrosion control on steel pipelines. Keeping accurate records and submitting reports to regulatory bodies will be crucial in maintaining the city's compliance.

Beyond technical responsibilities, this role requires a proactive and collaborative leader who can foster a culture of safety and efficiency within the Public Works Department. The supervisor will work closely with other city personnel and regulatory bodies, ensuring that the gas system operates smoothly and meets all operational requirements. The ability to work as a team player and invest in the community is essential, as the Gas System Supervisor will also be involved in public interaction, handling complaints, and troubleshooting any issues related to the gas system.

This position comes with several upcoming projects, including implementing a gas distribution grant for regulator rehabilitation and updating the system-wide map of gas lines. The supervisor will play a key role in building a team within the Public Works Department to manage these projects effectively while maintaining a preventive maintenance program to avoid costly repairs and system downtime.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Key Qualifications:

Leadership: Supervise and manage the daily operations of the city's gas distribution system, including the oversight of repairs, upgrades, and maintenance activities.Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with the Texas Railroad Commission regulations, including record-keeping and timely submission of required reports.Preventive Maintenance: Implement an effective preventive maintenance program for the distribution system, focusing on the 2", 3", and 6" lines.Customer Service: Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns proactively.Collaboration: Work closely with the Public Works Department and contribute to a team focused environment.Budget Management: Maintain a budget-conscious approach to all operations, ensuring cost effective solutions for maintenance and upgrades.

Education:

High school diploma or GED required. Technical or vocational training related to natural gas systems is preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in natural gas distribution systems or a related field.

Technical Skills:

Familiarity with the maintenance of regulators, valves, odorization equipment, and steel piping. Experience in working with Texas Railroad Commission regulations is highly desirable.

Upcoming Projects:

Gas Distribution Grant: Manage the implementation of a new gas distribution grant, which includes the rehabilitation of three regulators.

System-Wide Map Update: Oversee the update of the system-wide map to accurately reflect all gas lines and ensure ease of maintenance and expansion.

Team Building: Develop and build a strong team within the Public Works Department to effectively manage and maintain the gas distribution system.

State Reporting: Ensure all required reports are updated and filed with state agencies, including the Texas Railroad Commission, in a timely manner.
