The Design Director will lead the creative direction of interior book designs, with a focus on four-color books, including cookbooks, lifestyle books, and other highly-designed books. This role will support the Flatiron and Celadon imprints, with additional support for other imprints as needed. This role will work collaboratively across groups; manage and delegate effectively; motivate staff. The Design Director must organize and create suitable designs for given material that meets the needs of authors, production managers and editors. This position requires organizational skills, time management, creative and original thinking. Problem solving with complex material, and good communication skills. What you'll do: Collaborate with authors and editors to understand the vision and theme of each book Liaise with editorial on all aspects of the book interior Reviewing manuscripts for page design Creating and routing interior layouts Managing direct reports and supervise freelancers
What you'll bring: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite Solid understanding of typography, layout Detail oriented, with a passion for interior book design Knowledge of prepress and print production Experience supervising and mentoring other design team members Strong ability to work congenially with other teams to create interior designs within budget Extensive experience working on four-color books, and directing the creative process from conception to execution 10 years of experience working in trade publishing
This role will have an annual salary of $115,000 - $120,000.
