Role Overview:

We are currently seeking a Scrum Master to join our Field Productivity value stream. The value stream is one of 6 within the New York Life’s foundational business and consists of 40 plus applications with a portfolio size of $50M.

The Scrum Master will play a key role in driving projects from inception through completion. The successful Scrum Master will lead project facilitation across the Technology portfolio of work using SAFe agile methodology & tools in support of key project deliverables. The positionwill report into the Release Train Engineer (RTE) and will require to closely partner with the VS delivery leads, technology teams and business partners.

What You’ll Do:

Provides training, coaching and facilitation to help their team(s) achieve a high-performance state.

Guides and mentors’ team(s) in scrum and agile principles to maximize effectiveness.

Helps team(s) meet its sprint and PI goals.

Support the Product Owner’s development and maintenance of the product backlog.

Represents the team at broader planning and coordination sessions (e.g., Scrum of Scrums).

Supports the team in adopting and becoming proficient in agile planning and development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, etc.).

Ensures the team’s progress towards meeting its goals is accurate and visible to its stakeholders.

Monitors and maximizes team velocity.

Removes work roadblocks for the team(s).

Resolves conflicts and issues that occur.

Coaches the team to improve collaboration and self-management, promoting healthy interactions both within the team and with external stakeholders.

Bring energy, focus and resilience to the role to drive lasting changes.

Ensure that the team continually reflects on its processes and selects areas to improve.

Contributes to the advancement and improvement of agile practices, share learnings and knowledge, through engagement in Community of Practice.

Responsible for reporting on agile performance metrics (velocity, burndown, etc.)

Facilitates SAFe ceremonies (standups, retrospectives, sprint planning, sprint review, etc.)

Monitors scrum team for compliance with agile framework within JIRA

Helps build self-organizing teams

What You’ll Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or arelated field of study is required.

Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) Scrum Master certification preferred.

Has background in hands-on work with the scrum team competencies. For instance, had programming, testing, requirements gathering experience before assuming project management roles.

Has technical expertise to mentor the scrum team on best practices for each competency (Development, Testing, BA, Ops, UAT, Integrations, etc)

Has managed projects that use service-oriented architecture

Has sufficient technical expertise to analyze risks and process gaps and help provide solutions and assist in remediation activities.

5+ years of relevant experience in Scrum Master experience within the Insurance/Finance Industry preferred.

Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking and ability to exercise prudent judgment.

Skilled in Agile tools such as JIRA

Basic understanding of life insurance/financial services industry.

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
