Data Governance Manager

This role can work remote or onsite within our California footprint.The Data Governance Manager is responsible for establishing and leading the data governance strategy and framework across the organization. This role ensures that data is accurate, accessible, consistent, and protected. The Data Governance Manager will work closely with stakeholders from various departments to implement data policies, standards, and best practices to enhance data quality and compliance.What you will do:Develop and Implement Data Governance Framework: Design and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.Data Management Strategy: Collaborate with senior management to define and execute the data management strategy aligned with business objectives.Data Stewardship: Lead the data stewardship program, ensuring data owners and stewards are assigned, trained, and actively managing data assets.Data Quality Assurance: Establish data quality metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve data quality across the organization.Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and manage data-related risks.Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to align data governance initiatives with organizational goals.Data Cataloging and Metadata Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a data catalog and metadata management system to enhance data discovery and usability.Change Management: Drive data governance adoption through effective communication, training, and change management initiatives.Reporting and Analytics: Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on data governance progress, challenges, and areas for improvement.Issue Resolution: Address and resolve data governance-related issues and conflicts in a timely and effective manner.Who you are:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles within the financial services industry.Relevant certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), DGSP (Data Governance & Stewardship Professional), or similar are highly desired.In-depth understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, data privacy regulations, and risk management.Strong leadership and project management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Talend).Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.#LI-ML1Pay Range: $125- $165k annuallyFinal compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.Mechanics Bank is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, genetic information, veteran status, or on the basis of disability, gender identity, sexual orientation or other bases prohibited by applicable law.
