Position Overview:The spirit squad operations coordinator within the University of Minnesota's collegiate athletics department is an independent leadership role responsible for organizing the daily operations of the cheerleading, dance, and mascot teams. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with experience in event planning, team management, and collegiate athletics. The operations coordinator will work closely with the assistant coaching staff, athletic department leadership and other stakeholders to ensure the Spirit Squad is effectively supported. The position will support the University's athletic events, lead spirit squad fundraising events and support overall campus events. The spirit squad operation coordinator will report directly to the spirit squad head coach.

Key Responsibilities:1. Operational Management: 20%o Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Spirit Squad, including practice schedules, event participation, and travel arrangements.o Coordinate with the coaching staff to ensure efficient management of practices, performances, and competitions.

2. Mascot Appearance, Event Planning and Coordination: 30%o Plan and manage spirit squad events such as fundraising, travel events and recruiting events.o Coordinate logistics for performances, including securing venues, arranging transportation, and managing event timelines.

3. Budget and Resource Management: 5%o Manage daily financial activity for the Spirit Squad including equipment, travel, uniforms, and other operational expenses.o Monitor financial performance, ensuring that spending is within budget and aligned with head coach's and departmental goals.o Overseeing and managing all invoicing

4. Team Support and Communication: 5%o Serve as a primary point of contact for Spirit Squad athletes, ensuring clear communication of schedules, expectations, and responsibilities.o Assist in the onboarding process for new athletes and coaches, including orientation and integration into the team culture.o Be main support for head coach and program oversight

5. Travel and Logistics:15%o Coordinate all travel arrangements for the Spirit Squad, including transportation, accommodations, and meal planning for away games and competitions.o Ensure that all logistical details are managed efficiently, with a focus on safety and cost-effectiveness.

6. Compliance and Risk Management: 5%o Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations related to Spirit Squad activities.o Implement and oversee safety protocols for practices, performances, and travel.

7. Uniform and Equipment Management: 5%o Oversee the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and other materials required for the Spirit Squad.o Manage inventory and ensure that all equipment is in good condition and meets safety standards.

8. Social Media, Community and Alumni Engagement:15%o Coordinate Spirit Squad participation in community outreach and alumni events.o Foster relationships with alumni to support fundraising and program development initiatives.o Collaborate with the athletics marketing and communications teams to promote Spirit Squad activities and enhance the visibility of the program.o Assist in developing content for social media and other promotional channels.o Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, team activities, and key metrics to the athletic department leadership.o Use data and feedback to drive continuous improvement in Spirit Squad operations.

Working Conditions:* This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly during athletic seasons.* Ability to travel with the Spirit Squad for away games, competitions, and other events as needed.The annual salary for this position is $45,000 - $52,000.Qualifications

Qualifications:* Experience: BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years; applies knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis typically on precision and timeliness of execution.

* Skills:o Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.o Experience in managing teams and coordinating large-scale events.o Financial management skills, including budget planning and expense tracking.o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.o Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, event management platforms).About the Department
