Central State University seeks a dynamic academic leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education (CHASE). The position reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a key member of the academic leadership team. The Dean oversees existing academic programs and leads the development of new programs to meet society’s needs. The Dean works with other colleges and external organizations to integrate the college’s plans with the university’s strategic plan. In this role, the Dean is responsible for leadership and oversight of the CHASE academic and research activities, strategic planning, and fundraising. The Dean embraces the university mission and fosters an inclusive environment. The mission of the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education (CHASE) is to provide students with a strong liberal arts foundation for citizenship in a globalized community. As a community of scholars, the College seeks to create and maintain a climate that supports scholarship and promotes a common spirit of inquiry between teacher and student in an open framework of trust and mutual respect. The Dean ensures that Central State University policies and procedures are followed. Academic programs in the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees academic program planning and evaluation, curriculum development, student learning outcomes assessment, implementation of general education requirements, and academic scheduling.
Fosters a culture of engagement by including department chairs, coordinators, directors, faculty, staff, and students to discuss critical collegiate issues and ensure a positive, high-quality working environment.
Leads strategic planning with faculty and staff about the future academic directions of departments, programs, and the college itself.
Leads the enhancement of existing research programs and nurtures new academic and research programs that yield successful outcomes.
Establishes and maintains a student-focused vision and strategy that includes measurable outcomes for student success, through a collaborative process including faculty, staff, student, alumni, and industry.
Embraces student success and assists in the design and implementation of curricular initiatives and co-curricular activities.
Fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives to attract, recruit, and retain top faculty, staff, and students.
Develops, promotes, and implements in collaboration with faculty, methods and processes to increase acquisition of external grants and contracts to enhance research and scholarly activities.
Establishes a culture of assessment and continuous improvement in the College leading to innovations in pedagogy and creative opportunities in the pursuit of academic excellence by faculty, staff and students.
Advocates for the college by participating in university budget and strategic planning.
Oversees all accreditation, program review, and other evaluation processes.
Recommends faculty contracts renewal, compensation level, promotion, tenure, honors and awards, non-renewal or dismissal in collaboration with the Department Chairs.
Recruits and hires effective department chairs, faculty, directors, and staff to ensure excellence in all college activities.
Minimum Required Experience
Doctorate degree from an accredited institution with an academic record that qualifies for tenure in one of the departments within the College.
Seven to ten (7 to 10) years of significant work experience in higher education commensurate with an associate or full professor’s academic rank.
At least five (5) years of successful managerial and administrative experience as a program director, department chair, or higher.

Proven academic leadership, administrative ability, and experience.
Experiences in budget, planning, personnel and student matters.
Ability to lead teams and achieve established goals.
Commitment to high standards in education, research and scholarly activities.

Experience in program reviews, assessment and specialized accreditation.
An established record demonstrating the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty and staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Successful college-level teaching in area(s) of expertise in programs offered in CHASE.
Successful generation of external and internal funding.
Extensive current and past scholarly/creative and professional activities.
