JOBThe Dean is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of the Humanities, Business, and Social Sciences (HBSS) division. The Dean is accountable for the following, including but not limited to, supervision of staff and faculty, fiscal performance, academic program development and review, serving as a liaison with local high schools, business and industry, and the community to ensure relevancy of program offerings, and the development and implementation of cooperative programs. The Dean will also communicate, coordinate and collaborate frequently with other academic divisions, Enrollment Management and Student Success and other relevant areas of the college.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIESSupervise faculty/staff including employment, day-to-day direction, evaluation, recommendation for promotion and tenure, and remediation discipline.Develop and administer the budget in accordance with institutional parameters and guidelines.Implement new academic programs and evaluate existing programs in the liberal arts on a continuous basis making appropriate modifications.Complete reports and take all steps necessary to ensure accreditation of liberal arts programs with appropriate organizational bodies.Administer the area through sound and accurate communication of institutional policies, procedures, practices, and executive decisions and philosophy of the President and Board of Trustees.Work directly, as well as through faculty, with students regarding registration, academic advisement, problem-solving, sound student relations, etc.Prepare initial input on the master teaching schedule and teaching load assignments to the Senior Vice President/Provost.Prepare material related to the liberal arts programs, in a timely manner, such as the college catalog, registration brochure, student handbook and annual report.Plan and implement the capital equipment acquisition and maintenance program. Maintain accurate inventory in accordance with institutional parameters and guidelines.Order and maintain expendable supplies in accordance with institutional parameters and guidelines.Develop and implement faculty development particularly in the area of instructional technology and ensuring all faculty maintain currency in their discipline.Provide input to the Senior Vice President/Provost for new facilities and for the modification of existing facilities which support the liberal arts programs.Manage all facilities and fiscal resources assigned to this area.Develop and implement programs promoting the academic offerings.Seek external sources of funding such as grants, write grant proposals, and administer grants for the liberal arts programs.Provide the data which demonstrates the outcomes of the academic programs in the liberal arts.Review and recommend in a timely manner to the Senior Vice President/Provost action of promotions, leaves, out-of-state travel, faculty tenure decisions, and other personnel changes.Assist and advise the Senior Vice President/Provost on college policy pertaining to areas of faculty, curriculum, instruction, and support services.In conjunction with appropriate staff, formulate divisional plans, including outcome objectives for the liberal arts programs.Initiate and maintain human relations oriented actions and programs for improving faculty morale, recognition of achievement in teaching and scholarly effort, and increasing faculty interest and involvement in the purposes of the college.Perform other related duties as required.OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
