Purpose:
Our high school after-school educational programs are seeking talented specialty instructors ready to lead programs and program staff, and inspire students between 9th and 12th grade as an After School Program Enrichment Instructor. In this role, our After School Program Enrichment Instructor provides specialty enrichment to high schools students to enhance their experience after school. We are looking for a variety of instructor who specialize in unique talents and unique instruction. Examples include Enrichment Instructors who can facilitate after clubs in one or more of the following disciplines: Sports (all types), the arts, theater, foreign language, sign language, dance (all types - hip hop, Folclórico, jazz, ballet, pop, etc.), cooking/culinary arts, teen affinity groups, music, musical instruments, creative expressions, cultural/global learning, civic engagement, martial arts, and more. During your interview, please be prepared to share what disciplines you are experienced in facilitating to students. The YMCA will provide needed resources, supplies and materials to facilitate after school clubs.
Position Summary:
The After School Program Enrichment Instructor leads after school clubs and classes for high school students attending the YMCA's After School Programs. The YMCA's High School After School Programs are located on public high school campuses - we serve students right at school. The After School Program Enrichment Instructors work directly with 9th-12th grade students to create engaging, interesting, educational and fun after school clubs and classes. The After School Program Site Enrichment Instructor instructs students, and will ensure a safe, caring after school program environment for all students that encourages creativity, expression and social emotional learning.
Job Type:
Part-Time
Pay:
$18-20.00/per hour.
Expected Hours:
2-4 hours per week during the school year (additional hours are available based on the number of disciplines you can facilitate).
Expected Shifts:
After school hours, between 3:00pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday (it is anticipated that the clubs will run twice a week, once or twice a day - 1 to 2 sessions per day).
Work Location:
In person; Northridge, CA (Northridge Academy High School and Valley Academy for Arts and Sciences)
Travel:
Must have reliable transportation to travel between high schools.
What you'll do:
Lead, facilitate, instruct and engage high school students in 9th-12th grade in after school clubs and classes, focused on a discipline.
Create a robust after school club for high school students - club size will be around 15-20 students.
Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants
Collaborate with supervisor to plan and execute engaging programs.
Build strong relationships with children, parents, and the school community
What we're looking for:
Must be 21 years-old or older and a high school diploma or equivalent
Passion for working with high school students in a club-based setting.
Must have demonstrated experience in a discipline.
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to create a safe and welcoming environment for all
Eagerness to contribute to a diverse and inclusive community
Availability on school days; approximately 2-4+ hours per week. Additional hours may be available during school breaks when the YMCA is operating school break programs (such as summer enrichment or summer school support). In addition to regular work shift, there are trainings, special events and professional development sessions that take place during the year. All trainings are paid.
This position requires the final candidate to successfully pass an E-Verify check.
To ease the onboarding experience, hired candidates will be provided access to complete a mandatory TB Test clearance, at no cost, prior to their first scheduled shift. The YMCA also provides all new hires with access to paid CPR/First Aid certification training, at no cost, to be completed within 60 days of hire.
