The position entails developing, evaluating, and applying hybrid models using AI approaches and process-based ecosystem models. Responsibilities include advancing knowledge-guided AI algorithms to improve prediction accuracy of plant production and C and N cycling in terrestrial ecosystems, collaborating with project team members, communicating with partners, and preparing peer-review manuscripts.Required Job Qualifications
Ph.D. in computer science, soil science, statistics, or related fieldAt least one year of post-graduate experience in ecosystem modelingExperience in applying machine learning modelsPreferred Job Qualifications
Demonstrated strong programming skills (e.g., Python and R)Experience in ecosystem model application and/or developmentExperience in developing machine learning models and knowledge-guided machine learningFamiliarity with supercomputing clusters and/or cloud platformsStrong publication records in ecosystem modeling and/or machine learningJob Duties
Research (75%):Develop and apply knowledge-guided AI algorithmsConduct simulations using process-based modelsEvaluate hybrid models with observational dataConduct analyses to quantify uncertainty in resultsCollaborate with scientists and staff for result interpretationCreate graphical outputs and spatial productsScientific Presentations and Manuscript Publication (20%):Prepare presentations and results for scientific conferencesPrepare peer-reviewed journal manuscripts as first authorIncorporate co-author input and address reviewer commentsCommunications and Reporting (5%):Regular communication with supervisor and project teamAttend project meetings and coordinate effortsEnsure project deliverables meet partners' needsConditions of Employment
