DescriptionThe Semel Institute is seeking to hire a Limited full time Staff Research Associate I will work under the direct supervision of the PI and perform the following tasks and duties:Perform oviposition and oviduct contraction assays in flies.Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments and collect and record lab measurements and data.Assist other members of the lab to perform behavioral, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology experiments.Work with Fluorescent and Confocal Microscopes to determine expression pattern of transgenes used for oviduct contraction assays.Assist PI in preparation of reports for manuscripts and grant applications.Assist in compliance of the laboratory environment with UCLA mandates and follow applicable safety policies/procedures.Other duties as assigned.Pay Range: $26.52 - $31.63 hourly.This limited position may convert to career.Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, Biology or related field is highly desirable.Experience working with Drosophila is highly desirable.Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.Knowledge of UCLA Environmental Health & Safety guidelines.Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data collection, entry and analysis.Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals at different skill levels.Ability to maintain an organized working area.Ability to keep accurate and organized records.Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling biohazard and chemical waste.Ability to work independently or as a team member.Experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Prism and statistical software is preferred.Demonstrate an interest in learning new techniques and concepts.
