Position Title

: Director of Children’s Ministry

Position Status:

Part-time, Exempt (approx. 30 hours per week)

Position Summary:

The Director of Children’s Ministry guides children and families into a deeper love for Christ. The Director serves as the principal animator and organizer for all children’s programming, events, and activities at Broadway Christian Church. This person recruits leadership and volunteers, develops and implements curriculum, and plans, prepares and executes programs and special events that serve children and families throughout the year. The Director of Children’s Ministries works in collaborative partnership with church staff and is an integral member of the Faith Formation Team.

The Director of Children’s Ministries will develop and oversee the Christian Education Program for Children, which includes the weekly Sunday School and Children’s Church programs for children, and other special programming such as Vacation Bible School and Rites of Passage. The Children’s Ministry Director shall seek to foster a strong education program through building relationships with teachers, students, parents and church leaders that strengthen the students’ commitment to the church and growth in faith in Jesus Christ.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop, coordinate, promote and implement children’s programs in the following areas: Children’s involvement in Worship services; Children’s Sunday School for ages 3 years - 5th grade; Children’s Church (held during Sunday morning worship); Seasonal events such as Vacation Bible School, Blessing of the Backpacks, Trunk or Treat, children’s involvement in church-wide festivities, etc.); and Rites of Passage (baby dedications, kindergarten Bible class and presentations, baptism mentor programs, etc.)

Research and order appropriate curriculum needed to support all children’s programs

Recruit and train required volunteers to meet education program requirements of the church (at least 2 non-related adults with each group of children), and assist in the classroom as time permits or as needed. Distribute a volunteer schedule that accounts for substitutes as necessary

Ensure with the Church Administrator that background checks have been completed for all Children’s Ministry volunteers

Coordinate with the Children’s Music Director to provide the necessary support for Children’s Choir offerings and Children’s Christmas Programming

Communicate Children’s Ministry praises and concerns frequently with the Pastors, Staff, The Children’s Ministry Team, and the congregation. Be an advocate for Children within all areas of Broadway Christian Church. Meet with Children’s Ministry Team once a month or as needed

Develop a Children’s Ministry strategic plan that supports the mission and vision of Broadway Christian Church

Maintain records, supplies, and classrooms

Participate in the preparation and development of the budget for the Children’s Ministry.

Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Communications to ensure all website and social media posts are updated with current children’s and family programming and events.

Be pastorally present to families and children and relationally engaged in the life of the church.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of relevant work experience.

Leadership experience in Christian education programs for children; broad knowledge of child development and spiritual formation.

Experience instructing and managing groups of children of varying ages and abilities.

Proficient in standard computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office, Google Office Suite, video conferencing technologies.

Familiarity with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or is willing to grow in familiarity.

Available to work occasional nights and weekends with required Sunday availability from 8:30 am-12:30pm.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
