Timucuan Parks Foundation (TPF) seeks a dynamic, accomplished nonprofit professional to drive and deliver the organization’s operations in the Jacksonville community. The position is ideal for a goal-driven innovator with a passion for environmental stewardship and public lands.The Executive Director (ED) provides vision, leadership and oversight of the organization’s programming, personnel and financial objectives; develops and monitors compliance with policies that guide the organization’s work; and energizes the Board, staff and volunteers around an annual work plan.The ED should have a history of demonstrated success in various fundraising techniques with strong business acumen and is equally comfortable with people and processes. The position combines organizational operations and direct fundraising responsibility. The leader will have the opportunity to enthusiastically build upon the current foundation to grow and expand community awareness of TPF and support for its mission. The ED will guide all fund development activities, including identifying and pursuing new fundraising opportunities. The person is resourceful with excellent communication skills and is diligent in attention to details to manage multiple projects/priorities concurrently.Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) leads a staff of one full-time and one part-time employee and numerous contractors and/or volunteers. This is a full-time, exempt position.About Timucuan Parks FoundationTimucuan Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization that preserves, promotes and enhances Jacksonville’s natural areas through community engagement, education and enjoyment. The foundation originated in 1999 with the Preservation Project Jacksonville, Inc. to identify and assist in acquiring the most vulnerable and environmentally sensitive lands in Duval County. The acquisition of lands created the largest urban park system in the contiguous United States. TPF works with its park partners, including the National Park Service, Florida State Parks and the City of Jacksonville, and other community partners to promote environmental stewardship, the health benefits of the parks and preserves, and an appreciation for Jacksonville’s special outdoor spaces.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations, Programs and Events:
Administers overall operation of the organization, including: reviewing and evaluating the results of program activities, ensuring contractual obligations are fulfilled, allocating resources for greater program effectiveness and efficiency, and developing organizational and administrative policies for Board consideration. Coordinates planning and implementation of special events, including design, promotion and delivery.Board Support:
Supports the Board by interfacing between Board, staff and volunteers. Provides monthly and annual reports to Board, including financial, program and outreach data. Works with the Board to develop and monitor progress on the strategic plan. Assists in the selection and orientation of new board members. Serves as staff support to the Board of Directors and its committees.Staff Management:
Manages and evaluates staff. Interviews and recommends individuals for hire. Assures compliance with all personnel policies and current employment laws. Oversees the engagement of contractors.Financial Management:
Recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages the organization’s resources within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations. Assures financial and data reporting as required.Fund Development:
Develops, leads and implements a fundraising plan that includes strategies for funding from small and large private donors, foundations, corporations, public funders and other sources. Leads and participates in all fund development activities including researching and applying for grants, personal solicitation and fundraising events.Marketing & Communications:
Work includes managing marketing and promotional materials, both print and electronic; with demonstrated excellence in use of social media technology. Has experience working with the press and media and has the ability to organize press conferences and events.Community Relations:
Liaises with other organizations identified by the Board and in accordance with the strategic plan. Serves as the chief spokesperson for the organization; represents Timucuan Parks Foundation to local, state and federal partners, elected officials, policymakers, researchers, other nonprofit organizations, local and national funders, community coalitions, print and electronic media and the public. Ensures that the organization is consistently presented in strong, positive images to relevant stakeholders, donors and partners such as environmental, travel, educational and historic organizations.Development Responsibilities
Develop and manage all fundraising activities including grants, annual fund efforts, special events, major gifts and volunteer management, including the operational, and budgetary requirements tied to development activities.Create and execute a strategic development plan that supports TPF’s organizational strategic plan.Design and deliver on a plan for expanded community outreach with a goal to identify new prospective donors and friends.Create a moves management strategy and action plan to identify, engage and steward major donors and prospects, includes maintaining donor portfolio.Work closely with the Board of Directors and other leaders to build a culture of philanthropy within the organization.Create a comprehensive donor-centric communications and stewardship plan with monthly, quarterly and annual touch point strategies.Identify and manage a comprehensive grants program inclusive of research, cultivation, engagement, application and stewardship.Qualifications
Ability to provide strong, hands on leadership, vision and strategic direction to staff, contractors and volunteers.Demonstrated record of success in raising funds from annual and major donors, as well as grant funders and corporate partners.Demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for nonprofits and a history of involvement in relevant professional organizations.Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically and effectively with boards, volunteers, community leaders, grassroots organizations and elected officials.Knowledge of the principles and techniques of grant administration, contract administration and negotiation, and fiscal and organizational management.Demonstrated excellence in writing and public speaking.Evidence of success in developing, managing and growing an annual operating budget. Strong business and personnel management skills.Highly motivated, energetic and creative problem solver with a strong public presence and the drive to achieve excellent, timely results.Working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, email, calendar/scheduling and word processing software.Ability and willingness to work a variable schedule including some evenings and weekends. Must have reliable personal transportation.Preferred Development Qualifications
Demonstrated experience of cultivating donor relationships and closing gifts over time.Ability to positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.Ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.Advanced knowledge and experience with Google and Microsoft products are required.Experience in donor management software (CRM) is preferred.Ability to successfully function in a hybrid work environment with regular in-person meetings with team members, donors, prospects, volunteers and partners.Education and Experience
College degree and at least five (5) years of experience with nonprofit organizations, parks, environment, or related fields.Salary/Salary Range
