The
College of Fine Arts & Communication
seeks to develop a pool of candidates for one- and two-year postdoctoral positions (postdocs) to support development of a research program centered on transformative technologies in the arts and sciences. This new research initiative will focus on creating space for unlike minds from diverse fields to create a community of inquiry. The emphasis is on sustainable, community-centered access to powerful 21st century tools and materials that amplify learning by accelerating research and teaching. New computing tools, materials, and methodologies are creating waves of disruption in the sciences, arts, humanities, economics, and other domains. The School of Art & Design aims to empower communities of researchers and teachers to work with these tools for open-world problem finding — in fields that might not yet be named.Postdocs will engage in research and professional training opportunities in domains across the arts, STEM, and digital humanities including immersive VR storytelling, expressive STEM and computer science education, XR game design, citizen science data visualization, teacher education research, and computational weaving and textile design. Faculty mentors from multiple academic disciplines work with postdocs on Texas State’s campus in San Marcos.A postdoc is a professional research appointment designed to provide recent doctoral degree recipients with additional experiences and skills to advance their careers. Each postdoc develops an individualized training plan (ITP) in collaboration with faculty mentors. The ITP serves as a roadmap for various research responsibilities and outcomes associated with the postdoc’s appointment. It also includes information about various professional development and networking opportunities that will be available to postdocs during their appointment.The School of Art & Design will accept applications from qualified applicants on a continual basis. Applicants applying for a pool postdoc position will be available for consideration in case the need arises.Required Qualifications:Recently awarded a Ph.D. in domains related to innovation sciences or learning studies, such as game theory, narrative theory and multiliteracies, history and philosophy of knowledge, history of education, science & technology studies, next-gen engineering education, XR/VR, computer science/STEM education.Recent research or design experience with relevant technologies in the hard sciences or humanities.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with interdisciplinary, team, and/or community-based research.Application Procedures:Only applications submitted through the Texas State University website will be considered:
