Marcum’s Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) Department is actively seeking a purpose-driven and client-facing, experienced Staff Associate to join our growing team in Washington, DC. CAAS supports the accounting function for a variety of diverse clients, primarily in the nonprofit sector. This is a great opportunity for an individual looking for challenging, highly rewarding work. Summary
The Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) Experienced Staff supports multiple engagement teams which serve as the Accounting Department for a variety of clients and is primarily responsible for collecting, reconciling, and summarizing accounting information, and utilizing the client’s accounting software to complete the monthly close process. The Staff Accountant may be involved with training and overseeing of processors and interns and may have direct contact with the clients they are serving. The work of the Staff Accountant is performed in the Marcum office but may involve travel to client sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist engagement teams with month end closing procedures
Assist client with daily accounting services as needed
Has direct communication with clients to perform work and address clients’ needs and questions
Prepare and maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations for most asset/liability accounts and select revenue and expense accounts
Reconcile clients’ bank accounts
Prepare required journal entries, including but not limited to payroll, depreciation, and expensing of prepaid items
Assist with financial statement and supplemental report preparation
Process Accounts Payable and check requests on a recurring basis, review general ledger to ensure consistency and accuracy of coding
Process Accounts Receivable invoices and maintain AR system records for clients: general ledger coding review for accuracy and consistency, process cash receipts on a recurring basis
Assist engagement team with external audit and 990/ tax filings at year end by preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary information
Assist engagement team with year-end vendor review for 1099 processing
Perform self-review to ensure accuracy of work
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other related field.
Experience in public accounting or a non-profit organization, preferred
1-3 years of accounting and/or tax experience in a public accounting firm.
Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting systems including Excel and QuickBooks. Experience with ProSystem fx Engagement a plus.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong project management and problem solving skills.
Strong time management skills and the ability to work in a matrixed environment
Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate and direct a team of people.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain customer service approach when building and maintaining client relationships.

Compensation Range
Salary: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00
