Position Summary:

The Search Team at Walmart is responsible for the algorithms that power Walmart’s e-commerce search, which is used by tens of millions of customers each day. We use state-of-the-art machine learning and AI to ensure that we show the most relevant and best products to the customer.

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist with a strong foundation in machine learning, information retrieval, and LLMs. The selected candidate will be responsible for architecting and developing new Machine Learning models to enhance the eCommerce user search experience. About Team:

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

Develop and implement new ranking algorithms based on machine learning.

Conduct statistical analysis techniques for search engine evaluations including Interleaving and A/B tests.

Write production code in Java for real-time calculations of engagement and relevance feature values.

Solve defined machine learning problems, and justify chosen approaches.

Retrieve and process data from multiple databases and extract useful features for modeling purposes.

Analyze data and evaluate model performance, and propose improvement plans.

Develop custom models and algorithms to drive business solutions, and scale them to large data sets.

What you'll bring:

Ph.D. or M.S. with 2+ years of experience in a quantitative field like Computer Science.

Solid understanding of Machine Learning models including Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Decision and Deep Neural Networks.

Proficiency in database systems including SQL and Spark.

Familiarity with Deep Learning frameworks including TensorFlow and PyTorch.

Experience with Cloud technology including GCP, AWS, and Azure.

Proficient in Java and Python.

Strong statistical data analysis skills.

Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs).

Ability to break down complex business problems into solvable analytical problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1 - Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2 - Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Data science, machine learning, optimization models, Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch), We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
