We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.What you’ll be doing:Collaboratively work with multi-functional teams to design and develop low signature equipment, systems, and the whole platform, by agreeing technical requirements, assessment methodologies and acceptance criteria.Support the generation of electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature reports at key review stages of the submarine design. Review system design documentation to ensure that electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature requirements have been addressed.Model the electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature contributions of equipment, systems, and the whole boat using commercial and bespoke software packages on our in-house HPC cluster.Conduct electromagnetic and non-acoustic instrumentation, measurement, and assessment of submarine machinery at factory and on board, ensuring that signature levels are suitable to maintain the stealth requirements.Support large scale electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature trials during major commissioning activities.Lead research projects completed within the department and with partner universities.Conduct stealth improvement activities on the In-Service fleet.Your skills and experiences:Qualified to at least degree level in Maths, Physics, Oceanography, or associated degrees (or equivalent industrial experience).Computer modelling software and/or programming experience.Experience from a defence, large-scale manufacturing company, submarine, or naval engineering.Detailed knowledge of the principles of electromagnetism.Knowledge of radar systems and associated technologies.Knowledge of stealth technology development or ship/submarine signature technology.You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave incentive, and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. From concept system designs to the assessment of the whole submarine as part of major commissioning trials, you will be involved in all aspects of the submarine lifecycle from concept through to support of the in-service fleet.
