Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, unless notified otherwiseTHE DEPARTMENTThe Kellogg Honors College provides opportunities and experiences for highly motivated students to prepare them for future careers or graduate work. The Kellogg Honors College maintains a learning community of students, faculty, staff and on-and-off campus resources. The Kellogg Honors College provides students opportunities for honors courses, academic research, conference presentations, community service, organizational leadership, internships/employment, graduate school planning, and cultural enrichment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the general direction of the Director of the Kellogg Honors College (KHC):Coordinate the KHC Admissions and Matriculation Processes. Implement the admissions process. Design, develop and manage the online freshman, sophomore, and transfer applications. Identify prospective applicants through analysis of multiple data reports from Tableau, Peoplesoft, and the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Planning.Design and lead honors college orientation. Meet with every new KHC student. Coordinate with Orientation Services and all colleges to schedule and lead orientation sessions.Recommend scholarship policy and identify potential recipients by developing reports, using highly sensitive data including applicants' academic, demographic, and financial information.Counsel prospective students and family members on the admissions process. Develop solutions to challenges submitting the application. Counsel declined and/or late applicants and parents on the application evaluation process.Survey applicants who chose other institutions to improve KHC recruitment strategies. Assess the effectiveness of the outreach efforts and the application process. Recommend changes to KHC Director and implement changes the following year.At the direction of the KHC director, develop and implement recruitment strategies including events, online and social media outreach, marketing, direct and indirect strategies for raising the visibility of KHC. Coordinate outreach with community college honors directors to counsel potential transfer applicants on the application process.Lead ASCI and student staff in communicating with prospective students and families:Coordinate KHC Student Advising. Develop and implement an advising model for KHC students that meets the specific needs of students and articulates with larger system and campus-wide goals and objectives (i.e., Graduation Initiative 2025, Equity and Achievement Gap, etc.).Identify solutions for completing honors course and capstone project requirements in alignment with major degree requirements. Advise faculty and advising centers from all academic colleges on KHC requirements. Recommend solutions for simultaneously completing honors college and major requirements.Coordinate with departments to resolve highly sensitive student issues. Advise honors college director of complex student situations and recommend solutions. Serve as official representative for nationally competitive scholarships coordinated by the KHC for the entire campus community.Advise all CPP students (including non-KHC undergrads and graduate students) and faculty on scholarship application processes. Identify honors college students for highly competitive scholarships and research opportunities.Recruit and advise all CPP students and faculty for CSU Chancellor programs like the Sally Casanova Predoctoral Scholars and Doctoral Incentive Programs.Provide instruction to ASCI in enrolling students into honors courses.Coordinate KHC Events and Activities. Identify and assess community service opportunities to ensure they meet KHC learning outcomes for community engagement, degree of social interaction, and community impact. Liaise with on-campus departments to organize community service events. Establish and maintain relationships with off-campus governmental and non-governmental organizations to schedule community service events. Follow-up after events to verify student participation and assess impact. Participate in some community service events alongside honors students.Coordinate and lead complex and/or high profile events, including the annual Honors Convocation (research project presentations and graduation ceremony), overnight off-campus retreats, regional and national conferences for students, and local student activities. Lead the planning and organizing of the annual Showcase of Excellence, a large scale Honors recruitment effort that typically attracts 1000 students and their families. Coordinate eight academic colleges and over a dozen campus departments.Assess attendees and facilitators for effectiveness of event for the following year. Direct over 60 faculty, staff, and student volunteers at the event. Resolve problems on the spot that arise during the event.Counsel prospective students and family members on university and KHC policies.Represent KHC on university-wide committees such as commencement, orientation, Preview Day, Homecoming, and university advising. Lead trainings about the honors college with campus departments and advising centers.Manage honors college website and social media accounts.Plan and lead alumni outreach activities. Lead ASCI and student staff to pre-register students and facilitate events.Develop, implement, and assess KHC programs and policies.Analyze sensitive and complex data from Tableau, Peoplesoft, and Institutional Research to assess programmatic needs, ensure compliance with university and system-wide initiatives and policies (i.e., 2025 Graduation Initiative, Closing the Equity Gap policies), and make recommendations for future directions.Work with sensitive applicant data reports from the Office of Admissions and Enrollment.Planning for honors college outreach planning and admissions decisions.Analyze sensitive financial aid data to determine financial need for scholarships and grant funding.Manage records of KHC student academic progress toward degree completion.Design and implement an assessment and evaluation plan for the KHC including developing student learning outcomes and identifying, collecting, and analyzing assessment data.Conduct exit interviews with all graduating honors college students.Make recommendations on department policy based on findings.Make results of assessment publicly available.Work with KHC director to design and implement strategic plan for the honors college.With KHC director, help oversee articulation of that strategic plan with campus wide strategic plan, WSCUC accreditation, and CPP Academic Master Plan as relevant.Gather data and provide reports to the Kellogg Honors College Advisory Committee. Participate in committee meetings. Represent the KHC along with or in place of director at meetings and conferences such as CPP associate deans, CPP department chairs, CSU campus honors directors, National Association of Fellowship Advisors, National Society of Minorities in Honors, Western Regional Honors Council, and National Collegiate Honors Council, and Honors Transfer Council of California.Oversee office staff: recommend for hiring, leading, training, and providing input to ASC I and student assistants performance evaluations.Seek out signature polytechnic experiences (PolyX) for Honors students, study abroad programs, fellowships, internships and research opportunities (REUs).Collaborate with other units on campus, such as the Center for Community Engagement, Office of Undergraduate research, etc., to identify these opportunities.Mentor students through the application and review processes for these opportunities. Meet with individual students, advise them, write reference letters, help them negotiate the university procedures.Collaborate with residence life to build and support a living/learning community for the Honors students. Maintain and oversee the needs of this community. Work with the Honors Club to foster community building and social and cultural events among Honors students.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related (Required)Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.One (1) year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred, but is not required.A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three (3) years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.General knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.Ability to:Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a job-related field. The equivalent to five (5) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.One (1) or more years' experience in the program area to which assigned (Kellogg Honors College) is preferred. Knowledge of the academic needs of students, academic departments, colleges, and curriculum: Strong computer skills.General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods; ability to generate and work with large student databases, to collect and evaluate that data, to draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.Ability to:
