Senior Research and Development Engineer

in the

Safety Systems Engineering

department. The

Sr R&D Engineer

functions with a high degree of autonomy, and is responsible for providing professional level engineering design and product lifecycle support for Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA) and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (NAMCs).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Develop safety system component and assembly design of stamped, die-cast, and injection molded parts

Lead the Design and development of new technologies in Automotive Safety Systems specifically Steering Wheels and airbag components

Conduct research and part analysis to benchmark competitors, understand and apply best practices, and how to apply/innovate TG technology to meet customer demands

Develop, present and promote new product technology to OEM customers

Attend conferences & seminars pertaining to safety restraints, interiors, materials, etc. to understand latest trends and inform new product development

Perform root cause analysis, and develop & validate countermeasures to address design and development issues

Maintain engineering documentation such as ADVP&R, DFMEA, timelines, and others

Collaborate with internal test group to create and implement test plans

Serve as a mentor and lead to Engineers

Provide project planning and budget management support

Provide regular support and communication between various global technical and manufacturing facilities

Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts

Function in a highly collaborative environment where flexibility and teamwork is crucial to organizational success

Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent in experience is required

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred

Seven to fifteen years of relevant work experience is preferred

Ability to travel outside of the United States is required

Experience developing steering wheel, airbag components and evaluating crashworthiness is preferred

Some CAD experience is a plus (CATIA V5 and/or UG/NX)

Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites 2007 or newer is required

Ability to consistently meet deadlines is required

Effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills with all staff and management are required

Effective attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills is required
