DescriptionGeorgetown University invites applications for Professor and McDevitt Chair in Computer Science, Ethics, and Society. The endowed professor will hold a tenure-line appointment in the computer science department and a cross appointment in the program in Technology, Ethics, and Society (TES). The successful candidate will also hold a research professor appointment in the Center for Digital Ethics. The Center for Digital Ethics combines scholars from computer science, philosophy, law, humanities, and communication studies to advance frameworks and solutions for an ethical digital future. The position, part of Georgetown's renowned interdisciplinary initiative in technology and society, will contribute to the teaching mission of Georgetown's academic programs in Technology, Ethics, and Society.
To hold this McDevitt Chair position, the candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure in the department of computer science. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished scholar with a demonstrated track record of high-impact, original research, an orientation toward interdisciplinary inquiry, and a distinguished teaching record. Preferred areas of research include, but are not limited to, cybersecurity ethics, data privacy, artificial intelligence and society, algorithmic bias and accountability, or the social and ethical implications of emerging technologies.
