MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention, Princeton, New Jersey, us, 08543

Postdoctoral Scientist in Tropical Pacific Climate Simulation and PredictionThe Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University, in association with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), seeks a postdoctoral or more senior scientist for research related to tropical Pacific climate simulation and prediction. The scientist will work to advance mechanistic understanding of the tropical Pacific climatology, and its impacts on climate variability including the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). A key focus will be understanding the causes of tropical Pacific climatological biases in model simulations and initialized predictions, and developing new methods to improve the simulations and seasonal forecasts produced by existing models and forecast systems. Working as part of the Climate Variability and Prediction team at GFDL, the scientist will make extensive use of a variety of observations and modeling tools, including newly developed high-resolution global climate models and a state-of-the-art coupled data assimilation system. The selected candidate will have a Ph.D. as well as:a strong background in climate dynamics or a related field;experience using and analyzing advanced climate models and observational data sets;excellent oral and written communication skills.A background in tropical Pacific climate research is preferred. Initial appointment is for one year, with continuation contingent on progress. Renewal beyond two years is subject to continued funding. Complete applications, including a CV, publication list, 3 letters of recommendation, and a one to two page statement of research interests should be submitted by
