The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level for Director of Cytogenetics in the Section of Cytogenetics in the Division of Clinical Pathology. The section is responsible for performance of Cytogenetics services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – the school’s 650 bed tertiary care core teaching hospital in New Brunswick, NJ and partner of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, an NCI-designated Cancer Center.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to the Cytogenetics Laboratory and be responsible for the interpretation and reporting of FISH and chromosome analysis. The candidate will interact closely with clinical staff and be an active participant in the educational programs of the Department, including teaching medical students and residents, and will be expected to engage in productive research activities. The candidate will also assist in the operational management of the Core, contribute to scientific journals and grants, and participate in scientific conferences/meetings. Our cytogenetics laboratory is the largest in the state, providing genetics testing services to a large portion of the state and, eventually, the health care system.

Applicants must have experience or fellowship training in all aspects of cytogenetics practice, including karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization, test validation, and laboratory management. Experience in genomic technologies, such as comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and optical genome mapping, is strongly desired.

Minimum Education and Experience:

A PhD, MD, DO, or MBBS is required along with board certification or board eligibility in AP/CP or CP (for pathologists) or the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics, and a minimum of two years experience in clinical cytogenetics. Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and academic experience. Women and diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
