Position Summary:Anticipated hiring salary range: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 annuallyThe Director of Hiebert Library reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and is responsible for the management and operations of Hiebert Library. This includes planning and implementing programs and services, supervision of all library staff, and budget management.The Hiebert Library is an academic library which serves Fresno Pacific University, a private Christian university in the Central Valley of California. As ministers to students and other employees in daily life, FPU employees seek to embody the ideals laid out in the FPU Idea.A steadfast commitment to the “The Fresno Pacific University Idea” and agreement to support its ideals and practices while employed by the University.Duties:Oversee and manage all aspects of library operations, including budgeting, acquisitions, donations, personnel management, and facilities management.Manage the financial activities of the Hiebert Library, including development and monitoring of its annual operating budgets and procurement functions.Provide leadership in the delivery of information services, including reference assistance and information literacy instruction.Oversee the promotion of the integration of technology to enhance library services and resources and collaborate with university IT professionals and vendors to implement digital initiatives that improve user experience.Oversee the archives of Hiebert Library.Collaborate with the university’s academic programs and student support services to address student needs.Serve as a liaison to each academic program, giving special attention to the non-traditional and distance learning students.Promote the library as an academic and student development service center.Ensure sufficiency of the collection for the research needs of students and faculty.Design, market, deliver, manage, and assess library services, including technology, cataloging, circulation, and reference procedures for traditional materials, music library, media library, and electronic resources.Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of library programs and services, utilizing those insights to inform decision-making and program development.Foster a culture of professional development among library staff, supporting ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and expertise.Serve on Academic Cabinet, President’s Council, and other university committees as required.Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate.Communicate clearly, listen attentively, and seek to understand others.Collaborate productively with colleagues of varying skillsets.Other job duties as assigned.Qualifications:Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program.At least 5 years of library experience.Demonstrated leadership abilities, organizational management, personnel management, and financial management.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other stakeholders.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in library services and organizational practices.Preferred:2 years academic library experience.Strong understanding of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in library services.Experience in library acquisitions.Knowledge of relevant legal and ethical issues in academic libraries, including copyright, intellectual freedom, and privacy.Environmental Conditions:Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.Physical Demands:This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery, operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
