Job Description - Research Support Specialist (2403629)Research Support SpecialistRequired Qualification: (as evidenced by an attached resume)Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, or biomedical science. One year of full-time work experience directly related to the assigned research area. Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques: RNA and protein isolation, RNA and protein analysis. Experience in working with in vitro cultures of mammalian cell lines. Experience in PCR and genotyping.

Preferred Qualification:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, or biomedical science. Experience in flow cytometry, reporter and activity assays. Experience in maintenance of mice colonies and genetics of animal models, handling and dissecting of animals (mice). Experience in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent techniques using cells and animal tissues. Experience in laboratory maintenance, including keeping a detailed laboratory notebook, and managing undergraduate students. Experience in data analysis using Microsoft package software.

Brief Description of Duties:The successful individual will be appointed a Research Support Specialist in the Department of Medicine-Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The overall responsibilities of this position are maintaining mouse breeding colonies, coordinating and performing experiments with animal models, organoids, and next-generation sequencing. The Research Support Specialist will work independently and as a team member on animal and cell culture models to understand the processes regulating intestinal pathophysiology.

Duties:Conduct experiments in animal models, including maintaining breeding stocks, genotyping and monitoring health on a regular basis, performing injections, collecting tissues samples and analysis.Cell culture and biochemical techniques such as RNA isolation, real-time RT-PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent, flow cytometry and western blotting will be used to complement the animal models.Perform literature search; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and PI.Other duties as assigned.Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
