HOURS:
Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week. Hybrid of remote and in-person position JOB SUMMARY:
Serve as assistant to the Prosecuting Attorney in representing the People of the State of Michigan in legal proceedings. Primary responsibilities include appellate work in Circuit Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Research and write motions in District Court and Circuit Court as needed Research and write Court of Appeals briefs on behalf of the People Research and write briefs for the Supreme Court on behalf of the People Appear and argue briefs in both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court Prepare and present in court cases including motions and trials as needed QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE: Law Degree required Michigan Bar membership required Minimum of 2+ years of experience in related field Experience with writing appellate briefs Knowledge of and adherence to applicable rules of professional conduct Legal research and writing ability Public speaking ability Familiarity with United States and Michigan Constitutions Knowledge of applicable case law, statutes, court rules, and rules of evidence Ability to think logically Ability to objectively analyze and evaluate facts and issues to form impartial judgments Public relations skills and ability to work cooperatively with others Ability to willingly take direction from others and make application to assignments Willingness and ability to be flexible and help others as a good team member OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history, and drug screen. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general direction of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
