Job Description: CalWORKs Counselors collaborate with Social Services Agency to support students during their educational journey.
Primary Purpose: Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or and career development,
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: (1) Have completed a minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages OR
(2) Have completed six (6) semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
AND
Two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
Commitment to diversity. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of CalWORKs/TANF program policies.
One year of experience in a community college CalWORKs program.
Demonstrated experience conducting in-reach, outreach, and recruitment of diverse student populations in an educational setting. Demonstrated knowledge and competency of community college counseling with specific knowledge in areas such as transfer and articulation, probation, career and technical education, STEM, and other unique areas of counseling.
Demonstrated success in assisting students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, former/current foster youth, system impacted students, speakers of other languages, and students with disabilities.
Experience counseling students from diverse, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and academic backgrounds. Knowledge of CalWORKs/TANF program policies and/or a willingness to learn. Experience working with students providing academic, career, and personal counseling through various modes of delivery: individual and/or group settings. Experience and/or understanding of case management models. Experience in planning, overseeing and implementing group workshops, orientations and conference presentations. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team in order to realize program goals and develop and enhance program vision. Experience in developing and/or providing student interventions designed to increase access, retention and successful degree and transfer completion. Bilingual in Spanish, Farsi, or Arabic.
Experience in developing Student Education Plans (SEPs) for community college students
Knowledge of California Community College matriculation process
Experience participating in outreach and matriculation activities on/off campus
Experience using multi-modal approaches and student-centered pedagogy to meet the needs of first generation, immigrant, and low-income students. Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives that are specifically designed to assist historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals. Passion for serving community college student parents. Proficient oral and written communication skills. Social media communication skills are highly preferred.
