Associate/Full Professor position, 9-month, 1.00 FTE (full-time equivalency), to begin in August 2025. The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa invites applications for a dynamic and engaged leader to serve as the Director of the Center on Aging (CoA) to carry out the highest quality research, instruction, and community and professional service reflecting the caliber of a Research 1 university. The Director may also serve as the Barbara Cox Anthony Endowed Chair in Aging. The mission of UH Manoa Center on Aging (CoA) is to enhance the well-being of older adults through interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts in research as well as educational programs and service to the community. The Center is an organized research unit (ORU) focused on applied, translational, and community-engaged research with attention on the diverse populations of Hawaii and the Asia Pacific region.Duties and Responsibilities:Provides academic and administrative leadership, serving as an active supporter and proponent of the missions and goals of the CoA, UH Manoa, and the larger University of Hawai’i system.Administers current education and research initiatives of the CoA.Develops curriculum in gerontology, teaches courses and seminars, and supervises independent study activities, theses, and dissertations.Establishes, coordinates, and strengthens funded interdisciplinary gerontological research and education initiatives at UH Manoa.Strengthens interdisciplinary research and education in aging at UH Manoa by encouraging wider faculty and departmental participation in gerontology research and education initiatives.Provides leadership for and deepens community relationships in support of the diverse populations of Hawaii and the Asia Pacific region.Establishes and tracks programmatic assessment policies and procedures.Serves on school and university committees.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications for Associate Professor:Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a college or university of recognized standing and in a field relevant to the position.Four years of experience as an Assistant Professor.Demonstrated ability in teaching and supervising independent study activities, theses, and dissertations.Demonstrated ability to facilitate cross-disciplinary research.Demonstrated record of grant funded research as Principal Investigator.Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.Professional leadership and activities in gerontology.Proven ability to work and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, legislators, state and federal officials, funding agents, and the general public.Experience working in multicultural settings.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.Minimum Qualifications for Full Professor, in addition to those listed above:Four years of experience as an Associate Professor.National reputation within the field of gerontology.Demonstrated fundraising ability and experience.Desirable Qualifications:Hold the rank of tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor at a research university.Leadership experience in an academic unit or comparable experience in administration.Demonstrated commitment to working on aging issues in Hawaii and the Asia Pacific region.Experience mentoring students and junior scholars (e.g., post-doctoral fellow, junior faculty).Demonstrated interest or experience working in multicultural settings that include Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Filipino, Asian, Indigenous, LGBTQ, and/or other minoritized populations.To Apply:
