Starting Compensation: 145,000.00

to 155,000.00 USD Per Year

Working Location: Remote (PST Time Zone)

Working Hours/Shift: Monday - Friday (AM)

(Qualifications) : Juris Doctor or graduate degree in public policy, social science or related field. 4-5 years of experience in public policy and advocacy in behavioral health or other human and social services. Significant professional experience in public policy advocacy, public policy research and analysis, DEIA, and coalition building. Experience interfacing with governments, elected officials, provider associations, and advocacy groups. Experience in community relations, strategic planning, and business development, and work with non-profit governing boards. Either:

Management-level experience in an organization that does CA county-contracted mental health and child welfare services. Or extensive and dedicated experience in mental health policy and advocacy (can be outside CA)

Management or board/governance level experience with a non-profit organization. How you will make a difference

(Job Overview): The Senior Director of Public Policy (SDPP) has the following responsibilities and provides services for Star View Children and Family Services (SVCFS), SBHG, and its affiliated companies. The SDPP supports the organizations’ boards of directors, executive management, and agency management developing and executing strategic government relations on local, regional, state, and federal levels. He or she monitors and evaluates proposed and enacted policies, legislation, and regulations as to their impacts on the company. The SDPP helps the organization form strategies for how it will attempt to influence and participate in making or blocking regulations and laws, and then works to implement these endeavors. The SDPP will ensure the organization is actively partnering with county, state, and provider associations and advocacy groups to support public policy strategies. The SDPP will work with organization leaders to develop public policy agendas and strategies for advocating those agendas, including supporting advocacy by staff and business development and community integration activities. The position will support improvements in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism (DEIA) within the companies and as part of public policy. Position may serve on the company’s Executive Committee and as Executive Director of Star View Children and Family Services. Division/Program Overview: The SDPP tracks the activities of policymakers and researches policy issues and trends impacting health and human services and racial and social justice to draft reports and keep the organization updated. Collaborates with executive management and the boards of directors of SBHG, SVCFS, and other affiliated organizations to establish public policy, advocacy, and DEIA strategies, and supports their implementation at all organizational levels. Partners with the board of directors to support governance responsibilities and collaborates with SBHG in providing management services. Identifies and evaluates proposed and enacted laws, regulations, and policies in collaboration with organizational leadership and recommends strategies. Coordinates advocacy efforts, including collaboration with industry organizations, advocacy groups, and community-based organizations. Develops and maintains relationships with public officials, community leaders, and coalition partners, participating in meetings and presenting information on advocacy issues. Supports community integration strategies and activities to bolster advocacy efforts and informs the SBHG workforce on public policy issues and advocacy opportunities with executive management.
