Austin Powder is seeking an energetic and strategic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the LLC's operations, sales, and safety performance within the LLC's market. This role requires a dynamic and results-driven leader with a proven track record of success preferably in the mining, quarrying, earth moving or construction industry who has strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of local market dynamics and is collaborative in nature. The LLC President is the senior-most leader of the LLC and is accountable for the safety mission of the LLC. This position is invested with the authority to control the management of all policies related to the safe handling of explosives and will be a 'Responsible Person' under Federal explosives law. From a commercial perspective, this position is responsible for developing and driving market strategy, managing overall operational efficiency and financial performance, and ensuring regulatory compliance within the LLC. The position has approximately 4 direct reports.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Safety
- The LLC President will sustain the process of developing and communicating a clear vision for the safety, health and environmental mission of the organization.
Establish safety responsibilities and goals for all levels of management.
Ensure systems are in place for systematic identification and mitigation of risk.
Review incidents with respect to any event or condition involving risk to the health or safety of employees, customers or the public, or risk of damage to the environment or our physical assets.
Monitor the status of investigations or legal proceedings of a material nature.
Leadership
- The LLC President will be a "take charge leader", driving the company to higher levels of performance, efficiency and accountability.
Establish agreed upon goals and objectives for direct reports with measurable outcomes and/or key performance indicators.
Ensure the LLC has the talent to execute its strategies by hiring and developing a strong leadership team and key business managers and making succession planning a core business process.
Communicate clear and consistent legal and ethical standards and ensure organizational compliance.
Financial Performance
- The LLC President will be accountable for the overall financial performance of the LLC.
Understand the business drivers and constraints across the business.
Articulate and quantify the potential impact of changing market conditions and opportunities.
Drive an aggressively realistic annual budgeting process and routinely review performance against it.
Industry Insight
- The LLC President's role is highly visible within our industry and is looked to by customers and regulators for thoughtful guidance on key issues facing the industry.
Gain and maintain knowledge of the economic drivers of the energy & minerals extraction industry and the civil construction industry.
Understand the regulatory environment impacting the explosives industry.
Develop knowledge of technology-based drilling & blasting solutions.
Business Development & Strategic Planning
- Austin Powder has been a customer-focused organization since its founding and the LLC President plays a key role sustaining customer relationships, driving the sales process and guiding the Company's long-term strategy.
Develop an in-depth knowledge of customer requirements; become invested in customer success, positioning Austin as the preferred provider of blasting services.
Develop local strategies to grow the business; work closely with LLC managers and their customers in contract bidding and negotiation.
Determine, execute and continue to monitor successful pricing strategies; an optimal price structure will yield an acceptable trade-off between growth and profit maximization.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
A completed bachelor's degree preferred; or 10 plus years of applicable experience required.
Senior management experience in a highly regulated, multi-unit/business environment.
10+ years of relatable experience.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong negotiating skills and the appetite to use them.
Willingness to travel throughout the LLC (some travel beyond the business region).
Knowledge of commodity markets/supply-demand/pricing.
Good financial analytical skills with ability to budget and forecast effectively, read a balance sheet and understand cash flow.
Effective presentation skills to succinctly and clearly convey ideas and issues in front of large and small audiences.
High level of ethical, intellectual, professional and personal values that complement the team.
Collaborative leader who is confident and assertive in style, but respectful of others.
Demonstrated skills using information technology in both internal and external applications.
Ability to drive change and make decisions with empathy & knowledge.
Ability to delegate, prioritize, and focus.
Strong relationship building and critical thinking skills.
Reporting Relationships
This role will report directly to the Executive GM and have approximately 4 direct reports.
Work Environment
This position requires the willingness to travel 50+%. Ability to travel at times on short notice and occasionally internationally.
Location
Typically resides within the geographic territory that they manage. The territory for this position is defined as our Northeast (Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York).
