IT Director Cybersecurity (DOT Executive VII) . This role is responsible for directing the strategy, privacy, operations, and budget to protect the enterprise’s information assets. This role oversees communications, applications, and infrastructure, including developing and enforcing relevant policies and procedures. The position collaborates with IT Directors and senior-level IT managers to advance MDOT's IT security and network design/engineering initiatives. This position also supervises the Director and Managers of the IT security team.The IT Director Cybersecurity reports directly to the Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO).Some of the essential duties of the IT Director Cybersecurity include, but are not limited to the following:Direct and approve the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust security systems to protect enterprise information assets. Conduct thorough risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor emerging threats to ensure robust risk management.Collaborate with business units to conduct comprehensive risk assessments, develop risk management processes, and implement mitigation strategies.Develop, implement, and regularly test disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure organizational resilience in the face of disruptions.Establish, review, and enforce security policies, controls, and cyber incident response plans to ensure comprehensive protection and quick recovery from incidents.Approve and manage identity and access policies, ensuring secure authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) mechanisms are in place.Lead investigations into security breaches or incidents, conduct impact analysis, and provide recommendations to prevent future vulnerabilities.Ensure adherence to relevant laws, policies, and applicable regulations, conducting regular audits and ensuring remediation of identified issues.Communicate cybersecurity policies and procedures to all personnel and ensure compliance is enforced across the organization.Oversee and manage all teams, employees, contractors, and vendors involved in IT security, providing training, mentoring, and ensuring high performance.Continuously update the cybersecurity strategy to leverage new technologies and threat information.Brief the executive team on the status and risks and communicate best practices and risks across the business.The current vacancy exists at MDOT TSO, Office of Transportation Technology Services, which is located in Hanover, MD. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field.Experience:
Ten (10) years of experience in IT security, with a strong focus on designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive cybersecurity programs.The ideal candidate will possess:Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline or an MBA.Experience within the transportation or governmental sector.Familiarity with the latest cybersecurity technologies and threat intelligence.Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, developing risk management strategies, and implementing mitigation measures.Ability to stay current with emerging threats and adjust strategies accordingly.Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and ensuring organizational compliance.Possession of industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or equivalent.Consideration for employment may be based solely on the contents of your application; therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information.
