Job Overview:

A1FED is seeking an experienced Senior Database Architect to lead the design, development, and optimization of database solutions as part of Enterprise Architecture (EA) services for a Federal Agency. This role will focus on architecting scalable, secure, and high-performance databases that align with the agency’s mission and long-term IT strategy. The Senior Database Architect will play a pivotal role in driving data modernization, ensuring database solutions are compliant with federal regulations, and supporting both cloud and on-premises environments.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design and implementation of database architectures that support the Federal Agency’s enterprise architecture, ensuring alignment with IT modernization efforts and mission objectives.Develop scalable and secure database solutions in cloud platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure, as well as on-premises environments.Collaborate with the enterprise architecture and application development teams to integrate databases seamlessly with the agency’s infrastructure and applications.Ensure database solutions are compliant with federal security standards, including NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and FedRAMP, and implement security measures such as data encryption, access control, and backup procedures.Optimize database performance through the design of effective indexing, partitioning, and query optimization strategies, while ensuring high availability and disaster recovery planning.Provide leadership in the migration of legacy databases to modern, cloud-based solutions, ensuring data integrity, minimal downtime, and smooth transitions.Develop and maintain data models, data dictionaries, and other documentation to ensure consistency and alignment with the enterprise architecture framework.Ensure data governance, data quality, and data lifecycle management processes are in place to support business and operational needs.Collaborate with security and operations teams to ensure database architectures are resilient to cyber threats and adhere to the agency’s security policies.Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior database administrators and developers, ensuring best practices in database design, development, and administration.Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or 8+ years of relevant experience).5-8 years of experience in database architecture and administration, with expertise in relational (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).Hands-on experience with cloud database services such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, and cloud-native NoSQL databases.Strong understanding of database security, compliance, and federal IT standards, including NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and FedRAMP.Expertise in database performance tuning, high-availability architectures, and disaster recovery solutions.Experience leading database migration projects from on-premises to cloud environments.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to design solutions for complex data challenges.Strong documentation and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.Preferred Qualifications:Certifications in database platforms or cloud services (e.g., AWS Certified Database Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer).Experience working with federal agencies or in government contracting environments.Familiarity with data governance frameworks and tools.A1FED is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds.
