Job SummaryThe Managing Director of Operations is charged with setting the vision and strategy for regional operations performance and functioning at KIPP Atlanta Schools. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Managing Director of Operations will manage the Regional Operations Directors to ensure that school and regional operational systems perform at the highest level. There are two Managing Directors of Operations in the region, each overseeing three functional areas. One will manage facilities, custodial services, and technology, while the other will oversee health services, school safety, and school nutrition. Both Managing Directors of Operations will actively contribute to the design and execution of centrally led initiatives aimed at implementing systems and practices that improve the organizations efficiency and scalability.
Job Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management 50%
Manage the Regional Operations Team consisting of Directors of Health and Safety Services, Facilities, Janitorial Service, and School Nutrition and build capacity in direct reports through comprehensive development including the establishment of performance goals, regular check-ins, observations, timely feedback and professional development opportunities
Regularly lead team meetings to ensure the effective cascade of communication, identifying areas of challenge and coordinating necessary changes in response to organizational challenges
Hold team accountable to performance goals and metrics identified through organizational planning and as part of their day-to-day duties
Through collaboration with Heads of Schools and the Director of Special Projects for Operations ensure Directors of Operations receive support for carrying out school operations initiatives
Strategy Planning & Execution 30%
Proactively identify operational areas in need of improvement at the regional level and develop and implement large-scale improvements to systems and processes to improve efficiency in all key operational areas
Develop and implement plans to support new and existing schools in all School Operations and Regional Operations Functions and advise the Senior Leadership Team on how to scale as we grow from and implement our strategic plan.
Support the work of the Chief Operating Operating Officer in identifying and developing network-wide system improvements to support KIPP Atlanta Schools growth, creating more efficiencies while still allowing for freedom and innovation at the schools
Operations Support 20%
Provide direct support to, and support the work of, the regional directors of operation for Health and Safety Services, Facilities, Janitorial Services, and School Nutrition to ensure that regional operations supports the day-to-day work of, and removes barriers for KIPP Atlanta Schools families, students and staff
Ensure that schools and departments collaborate on the budgeting process and adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, and partner with the Finance Team to ensure the budget for each assigned department is managed effectively
In partnership with Chief Operating Officer, ensures KIPP Atlanta Schools meets all charter compliance obligations
Support with organizational crisis management

Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation for this role is between $125,000 and $135,000. The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, and certifications.

Location & Work Conditions:
This position requires candidates to be based in Atlanta and regularly be in schools and able to attend in-person meetings and events. Additional in person time may be necessary based upon organizational needs.
Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred
Minimum 10 years professional work experience, ideally in a charter school or other K-12 education organization, or transferable experience from another private or public sector organization
Minimum 5 years of managerial experience with a track record of building, leading, motivating, and developing diverse and high-performing teams
Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and implement solutions, an ability to manage both the big picture and the details, and a strong sense of judgment
Proven track record of meeting deadlines and the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, work in a fast-paced demanding environment, operate effectively with ambiguity, and willing to learn and take on new responsibilities
Ability to effectively backwards plan, manage multiple priorities with great attention to detail, and deliver consistent results
Maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive key decisions that impact multiple stakeholder groups across the organization
