Organizational Overview:KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools is part of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) national network of free, open enrollment, college preparatory schools dedicated to ensuring that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. There are 280 KIPP schools in 21 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 175,000 scholars and alumni. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates 11 schools including five primary schools, six middle schools and one high school, as well as KIPP Forward which supports scholars on their journey to a choice-filled life. Job Summary:The Director of School Nutrition is responsible for all aspects of the School Nutrition Program for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools. Reporting to the Managing Director of Operations, The Director of School Nutrition will supervise the Regional Manager of School Nutrition and Senior Nutrition Managers and administer a multiple-site school nutrition program according to established policies and procedures and federal/state requirements. The Director will lead, oversee and train school nutrition staff, ensuring high standards in food preparation, service, sanitation, and safety, while also managing records of income and expenditures, food, supplies, personnel, and equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Management 30%

Build capacity in direct reports through comprehensive development including the establishment of performance goals, regular check-ins, observations, timely feedback and professional development opportunities

Regularly lead team meetings to ensure the effective cascade of communication, identifying areas of challenge and coordinating necessary changes in response to organizational challenges

Hold team accountable to performance goals and metrics identified through organizational planning and as part of their day-to-day duties

Develops job performance standards and conducts regular evaluations of all school nutrition program personnel and methods for hiring, training, and evaluating prospective employees

Strategy Planning & Execution 30%

Set, direct, and execute the school nutrition strategy at KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools to ensure cost-effective, nutritious meals are provided to students

Implements free/reduced price meal program in a manner that protects and preserves the civil rights of all students

Processes all free and reduced applications annually according to federal/state guidelines

Develops cost-effective menus and standardized recipes that maintain nutritional integrity and meet all local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations

Assesses customer preferences, industry trends, and current research to plan menus that encourage participation in the food service program

Works with school staff, teachers, parents, and physicians to plan menus for children with special nutrition needs

School Nutrition Administration 40%

Develop and administer the budget for school nutrition program, implementing efficient financial management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and policies and preparing and submitting financial reports to the GaDOE in an accurate and timely manner

Manage the Administrative Review process conducted by the Georgia Department of Education, ensure an accurate meal counting/claiming system throughout the region, and submitting the required documentation to the state monthly

Monitors the regions Agreement with the Georgia Department of Education to ensure the schools and region are in compliance with the provisions of the legally-binding Agreement

Monitors the districts use of Federal funds to ensure they are used only for allowable purposes

Conduct routine on-site reviews and internal audits of all KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools

Additional Information:Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation for this role is between $85,000 - $95,000. The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, and certifications.

Location & Work Conditions:

This position requires candidates to be based in Atlanta and regularly be in schools and able to attend in person meetings and events. Additional in person time may be necessary based upon organizational needs.

Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred

Must hold a Georgia Clear Renewable School Nutrition Director certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GPSC) (Masters Degree or higher) or be issued an Induction Certificate (Bachelors Degree or higher) and convert to a Clear Renewable certificate (Masters Degree or higher) within 3 years

Degree must be in Home Economics, Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or closely related areas

Minimum of 5 years work experience in multi-site food preparation operation, with at least 3 years of management experience

ServSafe Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment and renewed every five years

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and implement solutions, an ability to manage both the big picture and the details, and a strong sense of judgment

Proven track record of meeting deadlines and the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, work in a fast-paced demanding environment, operate effectively with ambiguity, and willing to learn and take on new responsibilities

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to build meaningful relationships quickly
