Closing Date:11/08/2024NATURE OF WORKAn employee in this class is responsible for the administration of the Federally-assisted School Nutrition Programs within Iredell-Statesville Schools (I-SS). The School Nutrition Programs include the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, the After School Snack/Meal Programs, the Summer Nutrition Programs, and other programs and discretionary grant opportunities available through the US Department of Agriculture. Work is directed through the interpretation and implementation of Federal and State law, policies, regulations, and guidance established by the US Department of Agriculture, the NC General Assembly, the NC Department of Public Instruction, and the State Board of Education, as well as policies specific to I-SS. This employee exercises considerable discretionary judgment and analysis in problem identification and resolution, as well as in the management of human and financial resources. The employee receives general direction from the I-SS Superintendent or other designated administrator for operational and/or support services and works directly with the I-SS Chief Financial Officer. The School Nutrition Director oversees the School Nutrition Program on behalf of the I-SS Board of Education, serving as the chief administrator for the School Food Authority (SFA). This position directly supervises School Nutrition personnel, including central office staff, supervisors, accountants/bookkeepers, data management personnel, school nutrition managers, and support staff, and is a key member of I-SS leadership.

RECOMMENDED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEA college degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, human environmental sciences, business administration, or a related field is preferred but not required. Applicants with a combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered. At least five years of experience in nutrition and food systems management in a commercial or institutional setting, including two years at the management or administrative level, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
