Job Goal:
To direct and administer a nutritionally adequate and fiscally sound Child Nutrition Program which has high student participation in all schools while meeting federal standards of accountability.
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated per provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of personnel.
Supervises:
Child Nutrition Program Staff
Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or above with a major in Food Dietetics and Nutrition or Family and Consumer Science from an accredited institution.A valid Alabama Child Nutrition Program Director Professional Certificate required.Minimum of five years of experience in a field related to Foods and Nutrition with knowledge of computer operations and accounting procedures.A valid Alabama Driver's License.Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as a liaison with the State Department of Education on matters relating to the Child Nutrition Program. Attend pertinent State Department workshops.Coordinate the interviewing and recommendation of appointment of all Child Nutrition Personnel.Develop CNP personnel policies and establish standards for Child Nutrition Program personnel. Monitor and revise as necessary.Direct the evaluation process of the Child Nutrition Program employees.Prepare bid specifications for food, supplies, and equipment for the Child Nutrition Program.Coordinate menu planning to ensure compliance with the federal and state regulations while at the same time promoting good nutrition and appealing meals.Monitor usage of commodity foods. Complete various records relating to USDA commodities. Monitor record keeping at the school level.Supervise food storage, food preparation, and food handling to ensure procedures required by Colbert County Department of Health are followed.Complete the School Food Service Review Form prior to February 1 of each school year to ensure that all state and federal requirements are being met.Direct food procurement, production, quality, merchandising, and service to promote good participation in the Child Nutrition Program.Plan, implement, and document staff development and regular staff meetings for child nutrition employees.Provide leadership and technical assistance to ensure compliance with Child Nutrition Program rules and regulations.Supervise planned student, faculty, and parent involvement in the Child Nutrition Program.Supervise the development and revision of work schedules for child nutrition employees.Provide nutritional counseling for students and identify nutritional needs as needed.Provide appropriate nutrition education programs for students and nutrition resources for teachers and support personnel.Set pricing of a la carte menu items based on bid pricing.Communicate with Superintendent to discuss problems, plans and progress in the Child Nutrition Program.Evaluate the overall Child Nutrition Program and make recommendations for improvement as necessary.Attend professional development programs to enhance professional growth.Monitor Free and Reduced verification system-wide.Monitor all orders for the bread, milk and produce, including statewide purchasing.Assist in record keeping and accounting procedures at the central office level.Evaluate and make recommendations for changes in pricing of students and adult meals.Ensure CNP compliance with all local, state and federal laws, regulations and policies.Work with school staff, teachers, parents and physicians to plan menus for children with special nutrition needs.Develop short and long-term goals through strategic planning for the district school food service program that supports the philosophy and policies of the Board of Education.Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
