POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Finance is a key part of the Senior Leadership team at Amped. With an annual operating budget of nearly $4 million and ownership of two capital assets valued at approximately $10 million, Amped is Louisville’s largest Black-founded, Black-serving nonprofit organization. The Director of Finance is responsible for financial management of this dynamic organization. This role provides strategic leadership and day-to-day execution of work for Amped. The position reports to the President and works closely with the Chief of Staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs financial planning and strategy in alignment with Amped’s strategic plan.

Manages, oversees, and maintains the organization’s financial accounts and records, payroll system, and financial reconciliations.

Performs the organization’s banking activities, including depositing and disbursing funds, making timely vendor payments, and reconciling bank, vendor, and donor accounts.

Prepares and assesses budgets and forecasts for operating and long-term projects.

Oversees and provides leadership for accounting staff for general bookkeeping, reporting, and A/R-A/P.

Prepares regular financial reports (e.g., GAAP, cash, regulatory) and analyzes financial results for audited financial statements and for stakeholder reports (e.g., management, board, grantors, regulators) and cash flow reports along with key performance indicators.

Oversees independent audit and IRS filing functions.

Assesses, establishes, implements, and maintains accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational needs.

Conducts financial and cash flow analysis, prepares projections, and makes recommendations regarding programs, projects, and capital investments.

Engages with the board of directors as needed and attends monthly board meetings.

Other assignments and participation as may be assigned in support of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

8 – 10 years of work experience.

Experience in nonprofit environment and working with federal grants desirable but not required.

Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.

Proficiency in accounting software and familiarity with treasury management.

Financial management experience.

Experience with identifying and implementing operational efficiencies and policies and controls.

Data management and data analysis skills.

Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with confidence.

Self-starter and self-directed.

Works independently as well as collaboratively with senior executives, program managers, staff, and Board of Directors; transitional support as needed from consultant.

Strong presentation, time management, and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Vision: Required to read and produce written documents, pull reports from the computer.

Hearing: Required to hear telephone and office equipment, communicate with staff and public by telephone and in person.

Speaking: Required to enunciate and relay information in person and via telephone.

Agility & Dexterity: Physical dexterity to write, input, and retrieve data from computer and operate office equipment daily (computer, telephone, copy machine). Ability to operate a motor vehicle as required.

Mental: Ability to read, produce, comprehend, and analyze data daily.

The hours for this position can fluctuate based on the courses being offered at a given time, which can include daytime, evening, and/or weekends.
