Location: United StatesJob Posted Date: October 2, 2024Postdoc Positions at UCSFPopulation:Our current work employs single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing to profile the immune, mesenchymal, and endothelial landscape of the mouse lung during late embryonic and early postnatal development, focusing on identifying how lung cell diversity changes after birth and how distinct cellular subpopulations respond to injury and direct repair. The Alvira lab currently has three NIH-funded open postdoctoral positions to lead the following projects:Delineation of molecular mechanisms specializing lung capillary subtypes after birth, focusing on a putative capillary progenitor population unique to the developing lung (HL154002).Elucidating how lung immune cell diversity and phenotype is altered by early injury to the developing lung, and whether these alterations impair the immune response to subsequent inflammatory or infectious challenges (HL155828).The role of specific pathways in regulating lung pericyte function during postnatal development to direct both capillary growth and quiescence (HL160018).Techniques employed in the lab include in situ hybridization, confocal imaging, immunofluorescence, single-cell and single-nuclei RNA sequencing, bulk and single nuclei-ATAC sequencing, genetically modified mouse models of human disease, and gain and loss of function in primary cells.The Alvira Lab is highly collaborative. In addition to leading their own project, postdoctoral fellows have the opportunity to contribute to all ongoing projects in the lab. The Alvira lab also has numerous ongoing collaborations with investigators at Vanderbilt University, Columbia University, University of Colorado, Stanford University, and the University of New South Wales, providing our postdoctoral fellows additional exposure to leading investigators in lung developmental biology.In the Alvira Lab, we value diversity of background, perspective, and experience. Expertise in primary cell isolation and culture, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, and mouse models of disease is desired. The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm, passion for research, intellectual creativity, self-directed learning, and a history of working well in teams.
