Job Description:
The Director of the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs provides strategic leadership, overseeing personnel, programming, and research that address key issues in media, public affairs, and public policy, with a focus on Louisiana. The Director is responsible for securing external funding from grants, foundations, and donors, and developing partnerships with stakeholders, including alumni and external organizations. Working with the Manship School Dean and Development Director, the Director leads capital campaigns and manages fundraising efforts to ensure the Center's growth.
The role involves developing distinguished speaker series, expanding research initiatives, and fostering civic engagement. The Director promotes the Center’s work, strengthens its public identity, and facilitates collaboration with faculty, community partners, and national institutions. Additionally, the Director manages Center staff, including the Program Coordinator and graduate assistants, oversees the Public Policy Research Lab, and collaborates on research contracts, ensuring strategic goals are met and budgets are managed effectively.

Plan, along with the development director and dean, a capital campaign to support Reilly Center growth
Pursue external funding to bolster the Reilly Center’s resources from federal grants, private foundations, individual donors
Manage the identification and cultivation of a portfolio of prospects among alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and government entities capable of making major gifts
Manage relationships with external partners on external funding opportunities

Oversee the creation of programs with a recognizable impact on Louisiana in the areas of media, public affairs, and public policy
Create and acquire the necessary resources for a distinguished speaker series that draws national media and political figures
Grow the research portfolio through the development of granting capacity to encourage interdisciplinary and multi-institutional research
Establish a fellows and professionals-in-residence program to bring expert scholars and practitioners to our community for extended periods
Create and expand good government and civic engagement initiatives
Identify and pursue areas of scholarship in which the Reilly Center may make a significant contribution in research and training

Develop and maintain a strong public identity for the Reilly Center
Promote the work of the Center and its expertise through creative means with its various stakeholders
Design, in consultation with the communication director, an annual promotional plan and budget to reach pertinent target audiences
Communicate with partners, public officials, and media
Identify and recruit Manship School, LSU, and external faculty to partner on research projects, grant writing, and programming
Develop and strengthen Center-community partnerships
Identify a network of Manship School, LSU, and external faculty and community members interested in becoming Reilly Center Fellows and Affiliates
Facilitate scholarly and professional collaboration among Manship School and LSU scholars with regional, national, and international partners and institutions

Oversee all personnel working in the Center and affiliated labs including the Program Coordinator, responsible for planning and executing public forums and seminars; and multiple graduate assistants
Oversee activities of the Public Policy Research Lab and work collaboratively with the assistant director of the PPRL and maintaining existing and developing new research contracts
Comply with all university and state directives
Establish goals, objectives, and metrics to ensure the advancement of the Reilly Center strategic initiatives
Form an advisory board to assist with connections, provide professional guidance, and contribute to advancement efforts
Develop and manage the annual Reilly Center budget in collaboration with the Manship School Dean
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 7 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Specific Experience:
Extensive knowledge of public affairs in Louisiana
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Proven written and verbal skills
Experience in advancement and grant writing
Commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion
Experience with media as a communications strategic or content creator
