Head Start Bus Driver – PT TogiakOBJECTIVE:
Provide safe, professional transportation of Head Start Children to and from the Head Start Center or during other program activities in compliance with all related laws and regulations.QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must demonstrate their ability to accomplish the job results described below. Qualified current and former Head Start parents receive preference in hiring.Job knowledge / qualifications absolutely required:
Current AK. Driver’s License w / CDL class B endorsement, and be insurable under Company Policy (requires 21 years of age), GED/ High School Diploma. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of the Alaska Barrier Crimes regulations as a prerequisite to hiring; background clearance check including fingerprints.State required health documentation, CPR/First Aide. Strength and stamina for the physical demands of kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, standing, and lifting. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to a wide range of early childhood illnesses and contagious conditions. Cleared driving record. Familiarity with Bristol Bay area people and cultures.ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:Maintains a safe transportation service for young children by:Being familiar with local climate, roads and skilled at driving under adverse conditions.Conducting required bus evacuation drills.Providing Pedestrian Safety training to parents and children within the first month of school.Ensuring that children are wearing height and weight appropriate Child Restraint systems at all times.Adhering to behavior and discipline guidelines.Ensuring no children are left unattended at any time and are only released to a parent/legal guardian or other person identified in writing.Having a current CPR and First Aid certification.Being knowledgeable of and ensuring compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards applicable to school buses and other laws, regulations, and procedures related to transporting children.Making sure safety equipment is on board for use in an emergency including a charged fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and seat belt cutter.Providing documentation of daily vehicle inspections.Reporting all accidents in accordance with State law.Having documentation of required training and annual refresher trainings on emergency procedures, routine maintenance and safety checks, and special equipment.Providing all new bus aides orientation to safety equipment on the bus including the use of emergency exits.Providing required monthly reports and other paperwork to the Transportation Coordinator.The Head Start Vehicle will be kept in safe operating condition at all times by:Providing a daily pre and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and notify Head Start Division Manager of necessary maintenance.Keeping records of maintenance including a safety inspection of each vehicle on at least an annual basis through the State bus inspection system.Maintaining accurate records on mileage, oil checks, oil changes, and other items as necessary.Assisting the HS Division Manager in making arrangements for regular bus maintenance.Maintains a reliable transportation service for young children by:Being available promptly to provide warm up and routine maintenance/safety check of vehicle before starting bus runs.Following a schedule of fixed routes including specifically designated stops where children board or exit the vehicle.Keeping up-to-date files on the bus concerning pick up and drop off locations.Establishes effective relationships with children, parents, members of the community and Head Start staff by:Participating in annual orientation for new children and parents and making parents feel part of the overall program.Contacting parents in the event of a change in the route or service.Talking with children, staff, and parents, about bus rules, discipline, and safety procedures.Maintaining professionalism while responding to inquiries/concerns from staff, parents, and community.Demonstrating respect for the parent as the child’s first teacher.Demonstrating an ability to work in rural multi-cultural communities.The Head Start bus service will be in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, and State and Federal law for transportation of young children by:Understanding and following all BBNA & Head Start Policies and procedures, the BBNA Head Start Manual, as it pertains to transporting children, and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards applicable to school buses.Program integrity and client privacy will be protected by:Agreeing to BBNA’s policy on confidentiality, keeping confidential information gained through employment secure, during and after this employment.Contribute to the overall team effort by:Welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to add value to the organization; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.REPORTS TO:
