Your Opportunity
Stantec GS is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Staff Architectural Historian to join our team.
Job Location:
Honolulu, HI or Solana Beach, CA with an option to work remotely depending on experience
The successful candidate will possess excellent knowledge of architectural history, have a keen eye for historical detail, and have a strong understanding of the preservation process.
The Architectural Historian’s responsibilities include conducting historical and architectural research, preparing architectural history reports, identifying historical buildings and sites, and making recommendations for their preservation. Prior working experience in the Section 106 regulatory process and direct experience in preparing Section 106 compliance documents is required. Our ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in architectural history, history, historic preservation, or a related field and has substantial experience in historical research.
Your Key Responsibilities
Conducting historical research, completing historic resource surveys, and evaluating the historic and architectural significance of properties under the National Register of Historic Places criteria, and preparing effects assessments.
Preparation of Historic American Building Survey (HABS)/ Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation.
Preparation of technical documents, including reports and inventory forms, in compliance with NHPA regulations and state reporting standards.
Aiding in preparing cultural resources sections of Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) and Environmental Assessments (EAs) and NHPA Section 106 Consultation Documentation.
Ongoing written and verbal coordination and consulting with team members and clients.
Contribute to the development of proposals in all market sectors, including scoping and pricing architectural history work.
Collaborate in an integrated team with engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Meet or exceeds the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61).
Extensive knowledge of cultural resources and associated regulatory environment, especially for federal agencies. Experience working on Department of Defense installations is a plus.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to frequently travel to field sites out of local area
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat
Knowledge of NHPA, knowledge of NEPA a plus
Knowledge of architectural terminology, Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
Experience with site recordation in both rural and urban settings. Experience documenting military resources and modern-era resources a plus.
Ability to travel and conduct field work as required
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record
Ability to pass drug test
Education and Experience
Graduate degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation or related field
Two years professional consulting experience in cultural resources management or a related professional field

Salary Range(s):
$56,100 - $81,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI
CA Other Areas $56,100 - CA Other Areas $81,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
