A Day in the LifeAs a

Senior Communications Specialist , you will be an important member of the Diabetes Operating Unit’s Marketing & Communications team and play a critical role in promoting, enhancing, and protecting the organization's reputation. You will support highly visible external and internal communications, including executive communications, media and public relations efforts, as well as issues and crises management. In this role, you will support leaders in the U.S. region of the Diabetes Business to engage their critical stakeholders around strategic priorities for the business and region.

Medtronic Diabetes is headquartered in Northridge, CA and San Antonio, Texas. The strong preference is for this role to be based in either of these sites and in the office 3 days per week. Remote within the United States may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Responsibilities include:

Execute and implement multiple forms of external and internal communications activities and content aligned to the Global Communications function strategy and tailored for the U.S.

Manage the execution of product approval and launch strategies in the U.S.

Strategize around the promotion of key data and congresses in the U.S.; lead and manage execution.

Play a critical role in the planning, writing, and editing of communications tailored for different stakeholders, leveraging various multimedia formats and channels to persuade, educate, and inspire audiences.

Support the development of internal communications materials for key U.S. leaders, including organizational announcements, bios, town hall slides, and maintenance of key distribution lists for email sends.

Assist with media relations activities, including supporting material development related to product/service launches and campaigns in the U.S., and developing responses to address media inquiries in a timely manner.

Support Global and U.S.-focused crisis communications and development of issues management materials, as needed.

Manage external and internal editorial calendar for the U.S., including key leaders, continually mining for story ideas, and leading the development of content to drive an omnichannel marketing approach across Marketing and Communications (e.g., social media content, website content, email content).

Responsible for leveraging Eloqua to distribute internal emails to key stakeholders (will be trained on this platform).

Explore new ways to engage with U.S. employees in ways that educate and inspire to change behavior or advance quarterly/annual goals.

Be globally minded, collaborating across regions, functions, and operating units (know how to navigate a highly matrixed environment).

Consult with Communications Program Managers and team to implement plans and advise on areas for growth and advancement.

Liaise with agency partners to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of materials against agreed upon plans.

Partner with brand team to ensure materials meet brand and style guidelines and are approved through applicable approval processes.

Monitor industry news, synthesize for relevance to business and articulate key insights to team.

Travel approximately 20%.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism (or related field) or advanced degree with 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism (or related field).

Nice to Have:

Exceptional verbal, writing, editing, and organizational skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Executive presence and the ability to interact with leaders across the function and manage information with high levels of discretion.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently and in collaboration with leaders and cross-functional partners, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Experience in design and visual mediums (PowerPoint, infographics, still images, video) a plus.

Strong PowerPoint skills with an eye toward visual storytelling and design.

Experience using the Eloqua, Yammer, Teams, and SharePoint platforms a plus.

Experience in healthcare (i.e., medical device, pharma or biotech) or regulated industry.

Experience in creating/developing public relations/communications strategies or plans.

Eagerness to learn about Medtronic Diabetes and drive forward the business and Mission while growing with the company.

Team player with a positive attitude and ability to work cross-functionally in a large, highly matrixed organization.

Has a strong bias for action and sense of urgency around execution.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $80,800.00 - $121,200.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
