Description
This position requires a range of modern biological techniques and administrative skills: 1. Experimental: by category: Molecular biology (Agarose gel electrophoresis, plasmid preparations and purification, isolation of DNA and RNA, bacterial transformation); Microscopy (confocal laser scanning, light sheet fluorescence); Histology (all steps of immunofluorescence staining for both protein and RNA, imaging processing using Imaris, tissue clearing, RNA scope, expanded tissue preparation and microscopy for both RNA and protein in Drosophila, cryosectioning, EASI-FISH in mouse brain (for RNA; not including computational analysis); Drosophila (general animal husbandry, maintenance of stocks, dissection of brain tissue, set up genetic crosses). 2. Administrative: Oversees daily lab operations; Procurement (contact vendors for quotes, ordering reagents, consulting sales representatives); Management (conference registrations, blanket POs, serverance contract renewals, asset inventories, quarterly lab charge reports); Equipment (maintenance, oversight for incubators, centrifuges, gel imagers, Confocal microscope (LSM880) and Lightsheet 7 (LS7); manage and organize lab inventory; Interview, train and mentor undergraduates; Schedules journal clubs and lab meetings.Salary: $28.88 - $46.46 hourlyQualifications
Required:Skill to collect, process, and analyze experimental data.Ability to problem solve, work independently and as part of a team.Knowledge of molecular and cell biological techniques.Prior experience with work in a university lab.Skill to maintain accurate scientific records. Strong communication skills.Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize responsibilities.Ability to perform standard molecular and biochemical techniques, including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting. Accuracy with making solutions and buffers.Previous skills in working with miceBachelor’s degree in cellular biology, molecular biology, genetics, life sciences, or a related field, and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred:
Strong interpersonal skills.BSc with a strong background in molecular and of cellular biology.
